Five on Friday!

Happy Friday! We are heading to Florida today! Hooray!

Embroidered Linen Shirt (on sale!)

one. On Monday I got to hang out with my sweet friend and talented makeup artist, Lindsey Regan Thorne, for a super fun makeup lesson! A long, very sweet story short…a few months ago Matt asked LRT for a list of makeup must-haves and then surprised me one day with a ton of new makeup that he knew I’d never buy for myself (yes, he is seriously the most thoughtful person of all time). Then, LRT offered to teach me how to use all my new products. The lesson was life changing. She gave me tons of tips and taught me new techniques that have made such a difference in my makeup routine! In fact, I loved my makeup from the lesson so much that I slept in it overnight to wear it a second day.

two. Matt and the kiddos surprised me with this gorgeous bouquet of flowers for my birthday on Monday. Four days later they are still going strong!

Top (on sale 40% off) // Pants // Flats

three. I snagged this super cute Garden Party blouse during the Loft sale! I liked it online but I love it even more in person.

four. I was cleaning out my camera roll yesterday and found this fun picture from Food Truck Friday a few weeks ago. My friend Brooke and I are the social chairs for our HOA and thought a neighborhood gathering at the food truck rally down the street would make for a fun Friday evening. And it was! We had a strong turnout and stayed way past the kiddos bed time.

five. Target is seriously killing it lately with their shoes and accessories. I usually shop online to scale back on unnecessary impulse purchases (the cosmetic aisle gets me every time) but couldn’t resist this pretty watch for $17!!! I’ve been wearing it every day and get so many compliments on it!

Thanks for the Loft sale tip off - I spent my lunch break and too much money there, oops! That top is so cute on you. Enjoy your time in Florida!

Five on Friday!

Happy Friday!

one. On our way home from breakfast last weekend Caroline made a very serious request to stop at Home Depot. I thought Matt was going to abruptly pull the truck over to give her a hug. Without hesitation he said “YES, baby girl, we will absolutely go to Home Depot!” And so we went to wander the exciting aisles of sprinkler timers, mosquito sprays, plants and more. While Matt loaded up on 18 bags of mulch the peanut gallery supervised from the cart over a box of raisins.

two. If you live in the South you know how evil mosquitoes can be during the summer months. I swear I used to spend half of our outside time chasing my kiddos with a bottle of bug spray. So when my friend Lisa introduced me to the Thermacell, a magical mosquito repellent device, our outdoor world changed! While stocking up on Thermacell refills during our aforementioned Home Depot run I came across a new Thermacell product – the Patio Lantern! Oh, happy day! We now use the lantern for outside play and use our smaller thermacell for wagon rides, picnics, park dates, etc.

three. A few weeks ago Matt took my watch to the jewelry store to get the battery replaced and when he returned home he had the best and sweetest surprise – a beautiful cross necklace that I haven’t taken off since he gave it to me!

Matt has been known to surprise me with jewelry “just because!” from time to time. How did I get so lucky?

Also, the fam caught me mid-selfie and wanted in on the action.

four. Recently we restocked Caroline’s hair bow collection. And since baby girl has outgrown her bows we went up an inch in bow size. So Caroline’s new summer outfit is a diaper and 5″ solid bow. And because her hair is slooooooooowly  coming in we clip her bows to elastic headbands. You can find a full hair bow post here.

five. I received 4 more promo codes to give my friends a FREE box of HelloFresh meals! I’d be happy to send the first FOUR people to leave their email address in the comments a free week of HelloFresh to try!

Also, my favorite recent HelloFresh recipe – Summertime Pork Schnitzel! I’ve always loved shake & bake but this recipe takes it to a whole new delicious level but still keeps the prep under 10 minutes! So good. You can find the print recipe here.

Not one of the first 4 to comment but still want to try HelloFresh? Use promo code MG8GKD for $40 off your first box! That means you can try out HelloFresh for $29 and then cancel after your box arrives or keep on going.

Wishing you a weekend that looks this happy!

You always have some sort of awesome product to share! We love our thermacell with living in the country and/or camping a lot but heck, that lantern really steps up the game!

We love our Thermacell & don't go anywhere without it either. I will have to look into the lantern because that is awesome!! Also, we discovered spraying tiki torch fluid via a bottle that hooks to the water hose & spraying it all over the back yard, fences, tree trunks, etc keeps the mosquitos away as well. THAT has been a complete game changer for us & can now enjoy the backyard worry free! (Of course we wait briefly while it dries to go out & play)

I loved the pork hello fresh last week. Oh so yummy! I am forever grateful for the details on Caroline's bow collection. I love those headbands and bows for my Caroline. I love to having to pay $5 a bow at a boutique. Especially since her bow double as a chew toy right now.

Five on Friday!

Happiest Friday to you all! It’s been a good week but I am so ready for the weekend! Caroline’s Mickey Mouse birthday party is next weekend so you can find me gluing things, running errands and making grocery lists this weekend in between our scheduled events!

– one – SASSY WATER! I was reminded last weekend how much I love Sassy Water! The weeks leading up to my wedding I diligently drank Sassy Water to shed some last minute water weight. I had kind of forgotten about this tasty beverage until my friend May brought out a pitcher for us to drink while we were getting ready and told me she’d been drinking it all week too in preparation for the big day.

Why it works: Cucumber is natural diuretic, contains anti-inflammatory properties and helps the body release stored excess water. Ginger boosts metabolism, helps cleanse out your system and soothes your GI tract. Lemon juice also helps to cleanse and alkalize the body. Mint helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion.

This recipe also happens to be one of my top 5 most popular pins on Pinterest!

Sassy Water Recipe
original Carolina Charm post

Step 1. In a large pitcher combine:
8.5 cups water
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 medium cucumber, sliced thin
1 large lemon, sliced thin
12 mint leaves

Step 2. Refrigerate overnight.

Step 3. In the morning strain and drink entire pitcher throughout the day.

Step 4: Repeat for 4 days in a row, trying your best to avoid other beverages!

Note: If you want to skip the hassle of straining your ingredients, try using an infusion pitcher instead! Also, I re-use my ingredients twice before I refresh them.

Print recipe for Sassy Water.

– two – We celebrated Supper Club at Cristina’s house this month. For dinner she created the most incredible salad bar of all time…

Overachiever!

24 toppings. Unreal. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, Cristina provided cute to-go containers for each girl to take a salad home too!

She knocked dessert out of the park too. A whole buffet dedicated to dessert. I’m so glad I’ve already hosted Supper Club this year so I don’t have to follow hers! You can find her 2015 Supper Club set up (here)!

 – three – Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I am ahead of the game for the first time in my life! In fact, I think I’m still feeling guilty from forgetting about Teacher Goody Day a few weeks ago so now I have an insane amount of calendar reminders set to prevent that from happening again.

Each day next week requires some kind of gift – flower day, treat day, card day, etc. and with SEVEN teachers to surprise it can get expensive pretty quick. So I usually resort to thoughtful or clever ideas. This one goes down (in my opinion) as the most clever idea I could find on Pinterest that didn’t cost a fortune. The original idea I stole had a tag that said “I won the LOTTO” but I changed it to “jackpot” since it seemed more appropriate with a scratch off instead of a lotto ticket!

So “treat day” rounded out to about $15 total which is a real win (pun intended) in my book — 7 one dollar scratch offs ($7) + 2 packs of fun size 100 Grand candy bars ($4) + 2 packs of fun size PayDay candy bars ($4). Lucky me (again with the puns!), I already had the bags, twine and made the tags on PicMonkey. Although this gift only cost me a little more than two bucks a pop, ya never know, one lucky teacher could walk away with $7K! Ha!

four On Wednesday Thomas and Caroline’s school hosted “Muffins with Mom,” one of my favorite mornings of the year! We started in Caroline’s class, split a muffin, split another muffin, made a huge mess and then visited Thomas’s class for round two.

Thomas actually out ate us both in muffins. He is such a machine these days which is a stark contrast to his picky sister.

We usually drop Caroline off to her class first but on occasion we let her come with us to drop Thomas off first so she can hug her old teachers and visit with the babies. This of course adds at least 20 minutes to drop off. Also, you can’t wear shoes in his class so she always knows to stop and put on her blue shoe covers first. So funny.

– five – For anyone looking to purchase the best gift ever for a two year old girl, look no further! Caroline is absolutely obsessed with her Little Cosmetics Makeup Set that Grandma and Grandpa gave her last weekend for her birthday. The makeup looks so real so she totally loves it. I keep it in my makeup drawer so we can “get ready” together in the mornings.

Thank you mom and dad for saving me from any more cracked bronzers and chewed up lipsticks!

My mom is always telling me to drink her version of Sassy Water! She makes it basically the same as you, just minus the cucumber and ginger (which I will tell her to add!) The only other difference is that she drinks it warm. It's SO tasty!

Five on Friday!

Happy Friday!

one. We made it two whole weeks before throwing in the towel on the shared nursery. We really, really, really wanted this to work so bad and still hope that we can give it another shot in a few months, but the reality was Thomas was waking Caroline up too many times throughout the night. During the first year there are so many growth spurts and sleep regressions so Thomas’ sleep is just too unpredictable these days. He’d wake and cry for a bit and Caroline would get super upset which would result in both of us having to get up, each take a baby and rock them back to sleep. Then we’d do it all over again a few hours later. Since we’ve moved Thomas into his own room, Caroline has gone back to her 12 hours of sleep (for now anyway) and we’ve been able to let Thomas cry it out a bit which has really helped stretch him from 7 pm – 6 am. Any mamas with advice on timing for room sharing?

two. Since our main changing station is in Caroline’s room we’ll continue to change all diapers in there so I don’t have to stock both rooms with all our necessities. Because we have a LOT of “necessities.” I love talking to other moms about their must-have products, I thought I’d share some of my diaper station essentials today!

First up, we have the diaper genie and love it although these days we find ourselves bi-passing the genie with some of Caroline’s diapers and heading straight to our outside trashcan. There is nothing worse than toddler poop. My only complaint about the diaper genie is the cost of the refill bags. We’ve tried all sorts of cheaper bags including the Target brand (strongly suggest not wasting your money on these) and the cheapest good quality alternative we’ve found are the Nursery Fresh refills

Another most used item for us are diaper changing pads…because washing, changing and buying a dozen changing pad covers is annoying, expensive and time consuming.

We also have the OXO Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser which semi-perfectly dispenses one wipe at a time. I say semi-perfect because on occasion a few will come out with one pull but not nearly as bad as the long strand of wipes you get from the plastic dispensers. For $20, it’s worth it.

And a few of our favorite items we keep on the shelf include Mustela Physiobebe No-Rinse cleanser for quick wipe downs on skipped bath nights, the very best diaper cream ever – Triple Paste, Eucerin Baby for Thomas’ sensitive skin and Noodle & Boo Lotion for Caroline, Aquaphor for winter chapped cheeks and lots of DISTRACTIONS!

Changing Caroline’s diaper can be a full blown fight these days. The second we even mention a diaper change she turns into a ninja and a simple task of changing a quick diaper turns into either a negotiation or meltdown. Sooooo, it’s extremely important that we keep a fresh rotation of distractions available to both kids to make diaper changes as bearable as possible. Our current distraction line-up consists of Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes, Sophie the Giraffe, VTech Baby Phone and Bella Tunno Dream Bunny

Last but not least, odor eliminators for the aforementioned toddler diaper bombs. I recently received some products from Fresh Wave to put to the test in the nursery and I have been pleased with the results. I keep a tub of the odor removing gel on the shelf (out of reach from the kiddos), throw an odor removing pack at the bottom of my diaper genie, and freshen up the room with odor removing spray after each #2 diaper. You can find these products at Target!

three. I recently made the Pioneer Woman’s Linguini with Clam Sauce recipe and loved it. This meal is inexpensive, is thrown together quickly, tastes delicious, is toddler approved and fed us for 2 dinners and 1 lunch! So I recommend throwing it into your next meal plan!

four.  This week was so incredibly long. Thankfully I had the most amazing cheesecake to look forward to each night after dinner. I already raved about this on SnapChat but I’ll post it again because it is so dang good.

five. A few weekends ago we finally took the kids to Discovery Place Kids and I’m kicking myself for not doing this sooner. With the winter months keeping us cooped up inside it takes Caroline about 22 minutes before she’s bored, cranky and coloring the walls. Out of desperation one morning we packed the kiddos up and trekked out to Huntersville to the most amazing “children’s museum” aka a magical place of unending activities and rooms to explore. There’s a huge firetruck, a toddler sized grocery store, a mini deli, an underwater aquarium, the most impressive water table of all time and so much more. There was even a large area for kids under 3 that Thomas was able to play in. If you’re a mama in Charlotte, I highly recommend making a trip to DPK! Caroline could not contain her excitement.

I think room sharing depends on the kids. Our 17 month old and 5 month old share a room without a problem, other than the toddler wakes the baby some mornings. I don't remember our other kids having much problem either...with 6 kids, only our oldest has his own room. I think it really depends on how sound of sleepers your kids are!

Oh girl, my condolences on the loss of your spare room. I'm still processing not being able to throw crap in mine now that's it's a nursery! (although maybe you've wisely retained part of yours for out of town family? I do miss my guest bed but it wasn't being heavily utilized since our fams are close by) Will be checking out that cheesecake! Our Children's Museum in Richmond has set ups like the Discovery Zone pics and Lawter LOVED it when we went to see Santa there! I can't wait to take her back. It's so much fun to be able to let them loose where they can touch and do all the things and you don't have to constantly say no! haha
