I wanted to pop in with a quick update on Thomas! Yesterday our little man had a very successful strabismus surgery. We were home by lunch and our loopy Thomas took a very long nap and woke up back to himself - running around, inhaling packets of food and searching the house for his sissy. His eyes are still very bloodshot but we can already see a tremendous improvement in his alignment. Also, a surprise to us, our doctor re-inserted his contacts at the conclusion of surgery so Thomas can see! We were really worried about him not being able to wear his contacts during recovery but our doctor felt confident that Thomas would do okay with them in.
Also, I mentioned how worried I was about how Thomas would do missing breakfast since he wakes up hangry and to my surprise he did terrific. He was so distracted at the hospital with all the lights, noises, machines, doctors, nurses and patients that he didn't even notice he missed his favorite meal. Also, the night before his surgery Caroline helped us pack a bag of all their favorite toys so he could have them at the hospital. It was so sweet watching her meticulously pick out the things they love to play with most -- the drill, a cell phone, stuffed animals, her old purple paci and more.
We are so grateful for a 4th successful surgery for Thomas and for all of the prayers! I cannot believe that between Thomas and Caroline we have FIVE infant hospital gowns in our collection. Crazy. But we are beyond thankful with how far we've come in this journey with Thomas and are excited for the future. Off to his surgery follow up appointment this morning...

If you don't mind, please say a prayer for Thomas this morning! It's going to be a wild morning as Thomas and I are scheduled to arrive at 5:30 am to the hospital for 7:30 am strabismus surgery. Matt will meet us there as soon as he can drop Caroline off at daycare at 7 am. I'm a little more nervous than usual since Thomas wakes up starving and uncontrollably screams and thrashes himself around until we feed him in the mornings. So say a prayer for me too that I can keep him somewhat calm until his procedure time! And for his doctors. And for a smooth surgery and recovery.

We kicked off the evening with margaritas, dips, taser baton lessons from Laura's husband (most hilarious thing of all time) and lots of girl talk!
Isn't her backyard perfect? It had stormed all day and Laura was worried her backyard dinner party would get rained out but the sunshine broke through late afternoon and the weather couldn't have been better.
For dinner Laura made slow cooker barbacoa, a mexican street corn and a mexican quinoa.
And for dessert we celebrated the September birthdays with the yummiest birthday cake!

Yesterday I turned 30! It feels so surreal when I think about my life at 30 years old. I have two wonderful babies, a job I like, a home I love, the very best friends, a husband I fall deeper in love with every day and I'm healthy. I honestly could not ask for more. Here's how I celebrated my milestone birthday ALL weekend...
Afterwards I arrived home with just enough time to refresh my makeup and change for my birthday dinner before the kids got home with Matt. Ms. Jamie arrived right behind them and we promptly exited the house for our first stop of the night -- drinks at Baku!
Matt picked Baku for our cocktails stop because it was the location of our very first date night after we had Caroline. After a passion fruit bellini for me and a bourbon cocktail for Matt we called our uber drive back and drove .3 miles away to our final dinner destination - Dogwood Southern Table.
We arrived to our dinner table where 4 of my very best friends and their hubbys were gathered and shouting "SURPRISE!" at me. I was honestly so overwhelmed. I know I say this all.the.time. but I really do have the greatest friends in the world. For the next 3 hours we sipped on cocktails, enjoyed incredible food and closed the night with one last surprise - a beautiful birthday cake!
ALSO! The girls surprised me with the very, very, very, VERY best gift too -- a gift card for a massage at the Ritz!! I am so spoiled!!
Saturday morning all the ladies got back together for Lisa's baby sprinkle! Afterwards I took a long nap to recover from my birthday dinner the previous night. Later that afternoon Lisa and John hosted us, Sara and Wyn over for a delicious steak dinner while the kiddos ran around and demolished popsicles. The minis were so wiped out that they crashed into bed and gifted me with the most perfect night of birthday sleep.
Sunday morning we slept in until 7:50 am (THANK YOU LISA & JOHN)! We dressed the kiddos in their Sunday football best and headed to breakfast!
We went to Little Spoon Eatery for breakfast and I had the largest cup of coffee ever. The coffee cups at this place are so big that they require two hands and don't have handles. A ginormous cup of coffee (and donuts) is pretty much my perfect way to kick off my first day in my 30's.
I had the most delicious pork belly bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and Matt had chicken biscuits.
During breakfast the kiddos surprised me with a birthday card. And inside was a hilarious note with a gift card for a massage. They are so thoughtful. Matt wasn't supposed to get me anything but I can never trust him at special occasions. In typical Matt fashion his card contained a super sweet message and ended with "now accept my calendar invite" which he had sent while I was reading my card. The invite was for a trip to the mountains together. THE BEST!
After breakfast we made a trip to Walmart to let the kids pick out their Halloween costumes. Caroline was clearly indecisive so we bought all six costumes for her. Kidding. It was a tough call but she ultimately decided to be a bumble bee. And Thomas picked the Superman costume in about 8 seconds.
The rest of the day we lounged, grocery shopped and ate cupcakes. It was pretty much the perfect 30th birthday weekend. Thank you all so much for the birthday love!
