Five on Friday!

Happy Labor Day weekend! We’ve got some fun plans ahead. But first…

– one – Excuse the messy counter tops but earlier this week Matt surprised me mid-day with this gorgeous bouquet of farmers market flowers. He totally caught me off guard when he walked in on me binge watching Friday Night Lights. (I promise I do get stuff done on maternity leave outside of Netflix marathons. Just um, maybe not decluttering the kitchen.)

– two – I am pretty sure I am the only person who isn’t rushing into fall. I’m just not ready to let go of summer yet. I am loving tank tops, flip flops, longer days and I am still rocking my scrunchy summer hair. Recently I discovered the very best mousse for the perfect scrunch – Big Sexy Hair Spray Mousse. This mousse sprays directly into your hair as a fine mist so you don’t even have to lather it up in your hands first! Totally awesome and worth every penny!

– three – I cannot believe this actually happened since it’s been on my “to do” list for almost 4 years BUT I finally made our wedding album!!! It took me probably 20 hours to put together because I am the least design savvy person ever but I LOVE that we now have a hard copy album to share with our kids one day.

I used Blurb to design the album and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t cost a small fortune to print either. And since I’m on a roll now searching through the deep archives of our life, I even started our first family album too! My goal is to make one of these at the end of each year to have and look back on…if I can find 20 extra hours of free time.

– four – Blackberry jam!!! I did it! And it was easy! I canned my very first batch of blackberry jam this week with the help of my friend Lisa. I was worried I was in over my head on this project but was pleasantly surprised with how easy it really was. Oh, and it turned out DELICIOUS.

– five – We have finally found the ultimate white noise machine that I must share with you all – the Dohm. I could write a 5 paragraph essay on why you need one of these for each kid’s room and one for your own bedroom too! This sound machine has been an absolute game changer for us. It was recommended to me by a veteran mom with two kids (and two Dohms) and now I’m finding out that pretty much every experienced mom uses this exact machine and swears by it. In fact, even the box reads “recommended by pediatricians & experienced moms” and it was chosen to be the Official Sound Conditioner of the National Sleep Foundation. The Dohm is so much louder than any of the other white noise machines we own (and we own 5 types) and really helps block out unwanted sounds (hello, dog barking!) during naps and bedtime. Unlike other devices, the Dohm has an actual fan (with two speeds) inside the machine that creates a consistent, smooth sound of rushing air. Go buy one now. Heck, go buy one for every room!

Haha, don't feel bad about the house or the album. When on maternity leave, that's the BEST time to have a messy house…enjoy those babes! 🙂 Also, we got married in 2008 and I put together a cheapy album…just had 4x6s printed and put them in an album old school. But now I want to make a Shutterfly album or something instead. Gorgeous!

Love Blurb albums! I just love your wedding photos too, so gorgeous! I totally second that white noise machine… we got so annoyed of having to turn on the sleep sheep every 45 minutes and the natural white noise sound is so much better for our little guy! Have a great weekend friend!

We swear by the Dohms too – and they last forever! I'm not ready for fall either and refuse to give into pumpkin everything just because we're now in September! I am also binge watching Friday Night Lights (after having re-watched Gilmore Girls) and wish I could be more productive during quiet and nap time but the show is calling my name…

What a nice surprise from your hubby! The wedding album looks gorgeous. I've been printing out every photo and have already 3 300 picture albums filled and my son isn't even a year old, haha. So, I love the blurb idea for future years!

    1. We bought the Dohm for our kids room! Then we claimed it for our room after we realized how wonderful it was! 2. It is so hot in Texas that I can't even think of fall! I'm not in a hurry. Maybe when it cools down to 85 we will talk pumpkins! Thanks for hosting the link-up, Mary

Love your wedding album! It's so pretty! We like to get the $10 Shutterfly Groupons at the end of the year and make our "yearbooks".

Love the wedding book! Have you heard of 'my social book'? It pulls all your facebook/IG posts over any time frame that you want and puts it in an album for you, only 1 hour needed 🙂

Lol Netflix is the worst…. I'm watching Pretty Little Liars as I type this! At least FNL is a good show. 😉 PLL is horrible but addicting!! Happy holiday weekend!

It took me almost a year to do our wedding album, and now I try to keep up with them as events happen so at the end of the year I can just click "order" and be done! 🙂

I takes me years to create albums too because I am so picky. Also I LOVE that white noise maker. Total game changer!!

You are not the only summer fan! I am a firm believer that fall does not officially start until September 23rd and will act and dress accordingly. The Big Sexy Hair mousse is my favorite. I have super fine hair and it definitely helps pump it up! We were married in May 2011 and I am still stuck on my bridal shower album…you are inspiring me to get it moving again.

The flowers are so sweet!! I'm hanging on to summer too – fall can wait. I'll have to look into the sound machine – it sounds perfect!

Today the weather has been so cold and grey, I don't want to say goodbye to Summer either!Your wedding album is gorgeous.. The pic of you two both reading your letters is beautiful.. I swear a few days ago I saw it on Facebook with a quote about writing a letter to your husband/wife to be. How strange!

LOVE your wedding album fried and so glad you got it done! I have gone back and made photo books for our engagement, wedding, honeymoon, and all the girls functions (maternity, newborn, baby dedications and birthday parties) They are on our coffee table and it's so wonderful when people stop to page through them!I wish we had white noise machines – I have such a bad habit of only falling asleep with a fan or aircon. I CANNOT sleep without one!x

I have 3 of those sound machines…. And no kids yet! We are slightly obsessed. I cannot sleep in silence and I've converted my husband to be the same way!!

I started doing yearly snapfish albums a few years ago starting with our wedding and I love having one for each year and not having to worry about bulky albums or feeling guilty about having all our memories stored digitally! I'll have to check out that noise machine!

Good for you for getting your album done! I started an annual album when we got married and didn't get past year one…so I'm about 3 years behind! But I'm determined to catch up before we have the baby because then I'm afraid a decade will go by before I get to it!

I need the Dohm. Bad. Vivian gets woken up by even the slightest noise, so this noisemaker is going on the "to purchase asap" list. And good for you on the album, mama. I need to start doing family ones – and have on started in Shutterfly – but just never get around to it. Ugh. Must get motivated. They really do take forever though!!!

We got our wedding album back this week and I was not too crazy about it. We ordered through Shutterfly and are considering maybe redoing it. I will have to check Blurbs.

I am so impressed that you made your own jam! It has always seemed like a very difficult task best left to the experienced cooks. Do you know how long it lasts?
