Amelia Island Spring Break

We spent a few days in Amelia Island Plantation for Caroline’s Spring Break with my sister’s family! We were all so grateful for time away with family, so much sunshine, nerf gun fights, mornings at the beach and afternoons at the pool, golf cart rides and salted watermelon margaritas. While it was of course a circus with 4 kids under 7, we made so many memories on our trip together and it made my mama heart so full to have all the cousins together again.

Here were a few (OK, maybe a lot) of my favorite snapshots…

We really loved our last family trip together in Seagrove at 30A, but the drive kind of killed us last time, so we decided to relocate this year to Amelia Island. Matt and I took the kids to this resort last year and loved it so much that we wanted to return. And it was 5.5 hours from Charlotte and 3 hours from Orlando which allowed us a few hours of sunshine even on our travel day down.

We rented a beachfront villa at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation for our trip so we could all be together and it worked out great. This year, the sisters competed for the master bedroom with a straw and cheerio challenge.  Lindsey & Ryan continued their winning streak and their prize was the dreamy third floor master bedroom with a private balcony overlooking the beach…although I will forever dispute the video footage of the win.

The resort was slammed and the pool was pure chaos. Constantly keeping track of all 4 kids in a sea of small children in the pool definitely kept us on our toes, so we tried to spend as much time at the beach instead (although the kids preferred the pool). However, the pool did offer some of the best drinks ever. I think we tried them all and the guys’ favorite was the pina coladas and the girls loved the salted watermelons.

The beach in front of the villas was SO much quieter than the main hotel and while I wouldn’t go as far as describing it as “relaxing,” it was significantly more enjoyable and lots of fun. We even got to sit down for a few moments at a time in between sandcastle building, hole digging, playing ice cream shop and beach games.

I have to share an amazing product recommendation — the Supergoop! Glow Stick. My sister brought this 50 SPF sunscreen stick to the beach and I loved it so much that I immediately purchased one for myself. This dry-oil stick offers glow-boosting hydration and invisible SPF 50 protection. It rolls on SO smooth and leaves a dewy finish without an oily residue. This is going to be one of my top summer products. Highly recommend!!

Before the trip, my mom dropped off several loaves of Raisin Bread sandwiches — a longtime family favorite beach sandwich. My grandma used to make these ALL the time for us at the beach, and mom has continued the tradition. I have no idea if grandma made this recipe up, but it’s weird…yet SO unbelievably delicious. The sandwich is comprised of salami, butter and yellow mustard between two slices of raisin bread.  Told ya, weird.

We encountered countless turtles while at the resort too which was SO cool.

Thomas Swim Trunks + Rash Guard

Caroline spent hours playing Ice Cream Shop at the beach each day. This toy set was undoubtedly one of the best purchases we made for the beach.

On one of the days, the guys played a round of golf together then met us at the beach afterwards where Lindsey and I handed off the kids and spent the evening together riding around in the golf cart and grabbed a delicious seaside dinner. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip. It’s rare I get time alone with my sister so we soaked it up!

By the end of the day, the kids were spent so we mostly ate at home for dinners — pizza delivery, taco night, burgers. However, Lindsey and I took the kids to Marche Burette for breakfast while the guys golfed and the donuts were so insanely good we returned the following morning for another round.

One of the best parts of our trip was riding around in our 3 row golf cart aka “The Fun Bus.” Each night after the kids were showered and in pajamas, we explored the island by golf cart. The marsh side of the island is so beautiful and also has a great playground, so that was one of the favorite stops. And a close second favorite stop was for ice cream!

At the end of the trip I asked Thomas what his favorite part was and without hesitation he said it was the Nerf gun battle with the dads while the moms were out to dinner.
