This chocolate chip baked oatmeal is a hearty and healthy meal you can prep for the week or prepare ahead of time to serve a large crowd if you’re hosting during the holidays! It’s also gluten-free, can be adapted to be dairy-free, and easy to make in about 10 minutes!
You can create so many variations of this delicious oatmeal using your favorite fruits, nuts, spices, and of course, lots of chocolate chips! I’ve been making it since 2012 so you know it’s a keeper.
Here’s the proof…my 2012 photo! We’ve come a long way with our photography since then!

Chocolate Chip Baked Oatmeal Ingredients & Variations
- Fruit: You can use fresh, frozen, or dried fruit! I personally find berries to be the most delicious in this bake! And I honestly cannot tell the difference between frozen and fresh!
- Nuts: Add walnuts, almonds, or any other nut you love. You can also add a scoop of peanut butter!
- Spices: Throw in additional spices such as nutmeg.
- Chocolate Chips: You can replace the chocolate chips for another baking chip like caramel, white chocolate, or butterscotch.
- Zest: Get fancy with lemon or orange zest. Chefs kiss.
- Milk: You can use almond milk, cows milk, goats milk, etc. Really any kind of milk works for this.
- Gluten Free: If you’re making gluten-free, double check to make sure your rolled oats say gluten free. I really like Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Rolled Oats.
- Dairy Free: For a dairy free version, replace the cows milk with almond milk, and replace the butter for coconut oil.
Why We Love Chocolate Chip Baked Oatmeal
- Easy & Quick. The assembly time is less than 10 minutes!
- Feeds a crowd. If I’m feeding a large group (usually during the holidays), I like to double the recipe and bake in a 9×13 baking dish.
- Kid Friendly. My kids LOVE this oatmeal bake. It’s like cake for breakfast!
- Make ahead. You can make this earlier in the day and then wait to bake it until later, or the next day!
- Leftovers. This dish reheats well, making it an excellent option for meal prepping for the week. If you decide to meal prep this, you can also make it in a cupcake tin for individual grab-and-go portions.
