The pile of books currently on my
night stand…
I
am currently reading the book of John for my bible study. This is the first
time I’ve read John from start to finish and it’s been interesting taking an
in-depth look at the life of Christ, especially His final week leading up to
the cross so close to Easter.
Sadly,
this book has taken me 3+ months to get only halfway through. It just seems so
slooooow compared to Gone Girl and I keep losing interest. Weeks go by that
I don’t even pick it up. Anyone read it all the way through? And if so, is it
worth finishing? I know GG ended with a bang, so I hate to give up if there is
a mind blowing ending.
In my bible study for married
couples we are currently reading the DNA of relationships. Even if you’re not
married, this book is definitely worth reading! You will learn so much about
yourself and your significant other. I’ve read a handful of Christian books on
relationships and marriage, but this one totally takes the cake! I highly
recommend it!
Okay,
now I need your help! What book have you read recently that you couldn’t put
down? I need a really good book to read for fun!
I want to read Sharp Objects because I LOVED Gone Girl but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I just picked up Inside of a Dog by Alexandera Horowitz. I've heard nothing but great things! Interesting stuff you never knew about fur babies!
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton was a really great mystery with a twist and I loved all of her books actually!
Sharp Objects isn't worth finishing. It never gets interesting, and the ending is more gross than anything else.
My mom read Sharp Objects 9after reading Gone Girl) and didn't like it either. GRR. it's in my "to read" pile but idk if I will ever get through it. I know I will be comparing it to Gone Girl the whole time. I think this was her first book though, so maybe that's why it's not as good! I just finished reading The Paris Wife and I really liked it!
I read Sharp Objects, and it is a little slower than Gone Girl. There is a twist at the end, but…it's not all that exciting…Escape From Camp 14 is a really great read! I'm also looking for a can't put it down book right now…
I haven't read Sharp Objects yet, but I felt similarly about Dark Places. Interesting and good, but just not quite as impossible-to-put-down as Gone Girl was for me. Still looking for a book to recreate that high for me!
Oooh – now you've got me interested in the DNA of relationships.I hadn't heard of it. Both classics that have been around awhile, but I cannot say enough about The Five Love Languages and For Men Only/For Women Only!
I love posts like this! I always want to hear of great books. I was looking forward to reading Sharp Objects and Dark Places, but I think I'll skip them now. I keep hearing great things about The Paris Wife, so I'll have to try that!
Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drummond. 🙂 She's an Okie girl like me but I think you will enjoy her love story!
Sixth Station was my most recent read. I couldn't put it down!
Are you sure you should add one more book to that pile?! I'm impressed, I can (seriously) only read one book at a time. Must be something wrong with my brain… 🙂
Meaning of Marriage! And The Age of Miracles (fiction. xo
Almost Amish: One Woman's Quest for a Slower, More Sustaninable Life by Nancy Sleeth is a great book that talks about applying 10 Amish principles to every day life. I found that a bunch were actually things that I want to adapt for my daily life.
love the one your with, by Emily Griffin. I love it so far!
I personally enjoyed Sharp Objects, but I did read it before Gone Girl, perhaps that is why. 🙂 Gone Girl definitely blows it out of the water, but still worth finishing in my opinion. Dark Places is also good! I can't wait for Gillian Flynn to release another book.
My husband and I have been looking for a couples book to do and I'm going to look into this one!!! Yay! I just like having a "real person's" opinion on books like these because they can be corny. Haha. My favorite books are: The Forgotten Garden (Fantasy/mystery) and The Mark of the Lion Series (Christian historical fiction). So, so, so good!!!
It is not necessarily a "fun" read for yourself, but I absolutely recommend that you and your husband read "Love and Respect" by Dr Emerson Eggerichs. It has taught me and my husband so much!
I just finished reading Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble. It was one of those books I finished in a weekend. I just couldn't put it down!
I'm curious to hear if you end up liking Sharp Objects. I love Gone Girl so much that I want to read more of her stuff, but I'm also afraid that it won't live up to the hype. I just finished The Happiness Project which I loved and got so much out of. I'm currently reading The Expats which is impossible to put down!
Have you read the Shack its amazing. Our preacher wrote a book recently called the Gospel and I really enjoy it.
Off topic from the books, but I love the little mason jar vase with the doily and heart!I've recently read two books by Susan Elia MacNeal – Mr. Churchill's Secretary and Princess Elizabeth's Spy. They are WWII spy novels, but with a female hero, Maggie Hope! They were lighter than some, but really fun, and total page turners!
Also, I may be one of the only people who just did not like Gone Girl!
Loved gone girl! I would HIGHLY recommend a thousand splendid suns. It is an AMAZING read. One of mine and many of my girlfriends favourite books.
I also agree The Shack is wonderful also!
A simple classic that I'm currently reading is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I've seen the movie and love the storyline but finally decided to read the book. It just adds so much feeling to the story.
I loved Gone Girl and I'm loving our Bible Study for married couples which is Grace: An Invitation to a Way of Life. I also loved the Love Dare and am doing that instead of giving up something for Lent. Its a 40 Day challenge to love your spouse more initimately and Christ-like.
I just finished "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers and I have to say its one of the most inspirational books I've ever read the love story she portrays is so deep and heart touching I definitely recommend reading it :]-Jessika
I LOVE books 🙂 Here are a few suggestions: Anything by Sarah Addison Allen, her books are great and she's frome NC. Also, give a try to the Stephanie Plum series, by Janet Evanovich they are so funny. Lastly, I am currently reading Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I am about half way and it's great so far 🙂 Happy Reading
Oh, you must finish Sharp Objects. I loved it so much! My fave of her novels has to be Dark Places, and to be honest, I loved Gone Girl, but I think I really liked her first two novels best. Happy Reading!
