Five on Friday {& A Double Giveaway}!

Happiest Friday, friends! Big morning ahead! This morning Thomas has a big eye exam to evaluate his current prescription and see if things need to be tweaked since his surgery. He’s also out of contacts so before we spend a fortune on new ones we want to make sure they are the exact strength and fit he needs for the next few months. Please say a little prayer for us! These appointments tend to take hours and can be filled with lots of tears.

In other kid news (and then I promise to move on), daycare started potty training Caroline this week. One of our teachers has been telling us for awhile that Caroline is ready but we’ve been really bad about training at home. I honestly just forget! Plus we are so accustom to diapers that I haven’t really felt any rush to get one kiddo out of them. And also, (bad mom, I know) but adding trips to public bathrooms sounds terrible to me, especially with an upcoming road trip to Florida for Christmas (will we have to stop a million times?). But yesterday morning as I was loading Caroline into her car seat she said “mommy, can you go to Target and get me some pull-ups?” and so I think we may be ready. But I have no clue what I’m doing or how to make this happen soooo…moving on!

one // I’ve been traveling quite a bit for work recently which has given me an excuse to read a book! I wish I read more but the truth is I use my little free time at night to blog or watch TV with the hubs. So anyway, this book is definitely not for everyone but I recently read The Night Sister in one flight across the country. I could not read it fast enough. It’s dark, creepy and definitely a thriller.

Here is a brief summary in case you’re looking for a good thriller:

The Tower Motel was once a thriving attraction of rural Vermont. Today it lies in disrepair, alive only in the memories of the three women—Amy, Piper, and Piper’s kid sister, Margot—who played there as children. They loved exploring the abandoned rooms … until the day their innocent games uncovered something dark and twisted that ruined their friendship forever.

Now, Amy stands accused of committing a horrific crime, and the only hint to her motives is a hasty message that forces Piper and Margot to revisit the motel’s past, and the fate of two sisters who lived there in its heyday.  Sylvie Slater had dreams of running off to Hollywood and becoming Alfred Hitchcock’s leading lady, while her little sister, Rose, was content with their simple life. Each believed the other to be something truly monstrous, but only one knows the secret that will haunt the generations to come.

two // I recently received some pretty devastating news — I have my first cavity ever. But it gets worse…not only is it my first…there are three of them. I honestly didn’t believe it when the dentist told me so I got a second opinion and sure enough they are there. I’m getting them filled after Thanksgiving and both dentists highly recommended I add a Philips Sonicare toothbrush to my Christmas list. It wouldn’t be my lamest wish list item, but it’s definitely up there! I started looking into brushes and woah — SO many options, colors (including rose gold!) and features like various cleaning modes, intensity settings, brushing timers, pressure sensors, bluetooth technology (really?!?!), usb charging, and more! So overwhelming!

Side note: there is also a kids version which piqued my interest in hopes of decreasing my parental guidance during teeth brushing time! Anyway, it’s a little pricey for a tooth brush but also has awesome features like alerting the child to move to the next quadrant of the mouth, sings songs, and cleans deeper than a regular toothbrush with 500 strokes per second.

So anyway, my question for the blog world is…do any of you (or your kids) use an electric toothbrush? And are there any features you couldn’t live without?

three // Spicy Pork & Kale Soup: We’ve been on a soup kick in our house (see yesterday’s White Bean Chicken Chili post!!!!!) and HelloFresh nailed it with this week’s Spicy Pork & Kale Soup. I omitted the spicy ingredients in hopes the kids would partake in this dinner and Thomas couldn’t slurp down the udon noodles fast enough. And at the end he tipped the bowl and drank the broth just like the milk in his cereal. Big hit all around. You can find the recipe here.

As a marketing cover letter it should pique the reader's sense of interest, illustrate the way the applicant understands the advertiser's need and create the desire to find out more. How do they find out more? By inviting you to an interview of course. See more dental hygiene cover letter

Hiiiii Christina! I've been creepily following your blog/lurking for a while now since Lisa told me about it, but when I saw this post about electric toothbrushes I had to pipe up! I used a Sonicare for years but got very annoyed with how much space it/its base/its power cord took up, how much it weighed, cost of replacing the brush heads, etc., so I abandoned ship about 2 years ago and switched back to a normal toothbrush. Then, about 4 months ago I ordered Quip toothbrushes for my husband and I and I am OBSESSED. It has many of the same bells and whistles of a Sonicare, it's SUPER low-profile, nice-looking (comes in many colors including a rose goldy-copper color) lightweight, the holster sticks to your mirror or the inside of your medicine cabinet, and every 3 months you are automatically mailed a new brush head and replacement battery. It's also cheaper than a Sonicare. Now, I'm definitely not a dentist so I can't speak to its effectiveness from a medical perspective but (knock-on-wood) no cavities! You may want to get a second opinion from someone who cares slightly more about dental health than how cute her bathroom looks, but it's definitely worth checking out! Also, this link should give you a $5 off coupon: getquip.com/rf?referral_code=taylor41201710534.xo Taylor (one of Lisa's besties from Wake :) )

I'm sorry to hear about your cavities. I'm a registered dental hygienist in Canada and have been to multiple presentations covering different electric brushes. Mainly the diamond clean. All the reps kept stating it gives a better clean and I kept asking why. I ended up finding out the diamond clean is a medium bristle head but they do not advertise it as medium. This really bothered me since brushing with a head harder than a soft can cause recession ending in sensitivity and possible root cavities. Please be aware. Love your blog!

Oh my word! I had the exact same thing happen to me. I went from 0 to 3 cavities. I blame the fact that I started using the dissolvable melatonin before bedtime (have a reason makes me feel better about it). Anyway, I got the sonicare from Costco and have really liked it.
