If your group chat needs a reason to actually make plans, I’ve rounded up some of our favorite Girls Night Themes we’ve hosted and loved. These ideas are fun, easy to pull together, and perfect for creating new traditions with your friends.
Over the years, our Community Group has rotated through all kinds of themed nights, with different friends taking turns hosting and adding their own spin. From creative hands-on activities to cozy low-key gatherings, these are some of our most fun Girls Night Themes our group has hosted…
Candlestick Painting Night
Painting candlesticks turned out to be such a fun, easy activity that felt creative without being intimidating. Everyone could zone in on their own design, chat while they painted, and leave with something cute and personal to take home. And now I love noticing everyone’s candlesticks styled on their tables. It’s such a sweet little reminder of that night together.

Jewelry Making Night
A private jewelry-making party at Erin McDermott’s studio was such a good mix of creative and social. We spent the night sipping wine, stringing beads, and catching up while everyone designed a necklace and bracelet to take home.
It’s the kind of girls night theme that feels a little elevated but still super relaxed. You’re making something cute while you hang, and now it’s honestly so fun spotting everyone wearing their pieces out in the wild.

Watercolor Painting Night
I was a little nervous going into this one since I’m not exactly the artsy type, but it ended up being surprisingly easy and so much fun. Photos from each of our Instagram accounts were turned into custom coloring pages using ChatGPT and printed on watercolor paper so we could paint them together.
It was creative, low-pressure, and such a sweet way to spend the evening. 10 out of 10 recommend for your next girls night or small group gathering.

Seltzer Tasting Party
I hosted a seltzer tasting for our group one summer, and it ended up being such an easy, fun way to gather. Each girl brought a case of hard seltzer and an appetizer, and we set them all out for tasting.
This idea works with any beverage you love — wine, beer, canned cocktails, kombucha, you name it. Everyone brings something they love, gets to sample new options, and talk through their favorites.

Mahjong Night
Of course we all love a good mahjong night. Once you learn the game, it’s wildly addictive and perfect for long, chatty hangs with snacks and drinks flowing.
It’s competitive without being stressful, gives everyone something to focus on, and somehow makes hours fly by. Add a cute setup and a signature cocktail and you’ve got an instant girls night staple.

Friend Group Trivia Night
Friend group trivia night is elite girls night energy. Instead of random facts, the whole game was built around us — group history, inside jokes, forgotten moments, and iconic memories.
It was unhinged, competitive, and had us laughing until we cried. We used real buzzers (which made it way more intense) and handed out genuinely amazing prizes. If you’re planning a girls night and want something guaranteed to be hilarious, make the trivia about your own friend group.

Sound Bath Night
A backyard sound bath under the stars was such a cool, unexpected girls night vibe. We rolled out mats, got cozy, and settled in for a full-body meditative experience (led by Amanda Freels) that felt equal parts relaxing and surreal.
The session blended sound therapy, meditation, deep stretch, and gentle yoga, and by the end everyone felt lighter, calmer, and fully reset. The wildest part was how quiet my brain finally got. No constant mental tabs open. Just stillness. Doing it with a small group of friends made it feel even more special.

Favorite Things Party
A Favorite Things Party is an annual favorite girls night for us, and we’ve been doing it every year for the last six years! While it started as a Christmas tradition, you can throw one anytime you want an excuse to celebrate your people and share the things you love.
The idea is simple: everyone brings a set number of their favorite item (we usually pick a theme or price point), we do a fun gift exchange, and end up walking away with a bunch of new favorites ourselves. It’s festive, full of laughter, and honestly so joyful to see what everyone picks. Each year feels like a little snapshot of the season in our lives.

Spiritual Reader Night
Hosting a spiritual reader for tarot card readings was an experience we all loved and still talk about years later. Instead of a typical catch-up, everyone rotated through one-on-one readings while the rest of us hung out and compared notes.
It gave the night a reflective, slightly mystical feel and sparked conversations we probably wouldn’t have had otherwise. Easily one of the most unique themes we’ve tried.

Question Bowl Night
This night was a really special one. We gathered around a yummy dinner and cocktails, then each person wrote down a few questions on sticky notes and tossed them into a bowl. We took turns pulling them out and answering, and the mix of questions was wild…some sweet, some spicy, some hilarious.
It sparked way deeper conversations than anyone expected and kept the night flowing with so many good topics. You never know what question is coming next, which makes it extra fun.

At the end of the day, girls night doesn’t need to be complicated. A simple theme, good food, and your favorite people are more than enough. Pick one that fits your group’s vibe, put it on the calendar, and let the memories make themselves.
