I’d rate our Halloween a 4 out of 10 this year. Under normal circumstances, this holiday is one of our very favorite annual celebrations but for obvious reasons things were a lot different this year. I had hoped to be well enough to at least pass out a few lollipops from the front porch but ended up sleeping through most of the festivities.

A few months ago Caroline picked out her costume during a quick errand at Marshalls. I had hoped to dress her up as a cute little kitten but once she spotted the big ball of yellow fur a few racks away there was no question that she would be a duck for Halloween. We tested out the costume to make sure she didn’t mind the head piece and to our surprise she loved it.
For Thomas I decided to get crafty and whipped up a Mummy Onesie for him. However, in the chaos of packing his bag to go to Grandma’s house for the week I totally forgot to pack his costume. Fail. So Grandmom ran out and picked up the cutest little pumpkin outfit for him. It was super hard not having him with us for his very first holiday but I know how much it meant to Matt’s parents to have their little grandbaby all to themselves!
Meanwhile, my mom was having the very best time with Caroline. Our neighborhood hosts the biggest and most fun block party every Halloween that we always look forward to. Matt stayed back with me but mom took Caroline down to the party to play with her friends, eat pizza and jump in the bounce house.
Mom and her grandbaby duck!
And that was a wrap on Halloween!

They both looked adorable!! You live in such a great neighborhood- love that they do fun get togethers like that!
Oh, the cuteness!
That little duck is too adorable! I am sorry you missed out my friend but so glad you stayed in bed to rest – you know Caroline still had fun! x
How fun! I bet each grandparent really enjoyed the one on one time and you get a complete PASS on this holiday so don't even stress. It poured down Halloween night in Alabama so it was basically a miss all around this year. Hope you are resting well! Linds @ Not A Mom
So cute!! Thomas' grin is THE BEST EVER! (When did he become a little boy???? He's the baby!!!) love Caroline as a duck!! So glad the grandparents captured pictures and helped make sure the littles had a great day!!
I know it must have been hard to miss the holiday with the kiddos – but just think about all the holidays ahead that you are ensuring you WILL be around for! That puts it all into perspective. Thomas and Caroline look presh in their costumes!:)
You may have missed this Halloween, but thanks to your surgery you will be around to see every one after this. I continue to pray for your recovery.
Oh that smile!
The cutest duck & pumpkin ever!
The little costumes are the cutest, lady! I know you are sad about missing the holiday, but you know what, in the scheme of your LONG LIFE there are so many more down the road. I know I'm not a mom so I don't understand missing something of my kids, but I do know as they get older they are gonna be so happy to have a healthy mama!
The good news is your kids (and the grandparents!) had a great time and the better news is that you'll never have to go through this again, thereby getting to enjoy all the big moments from here on out with your fam! xo (Caroline in that costume is so stinking cute, and I love that she "flocked" to a bird of a similar feather in one of those pics hehe. Yeayea, cheesy, I know. : )
The kids looked so cute! Bummer that you weren't feeling like your normal self but I'm glad the grandparents had fun with the kiddos on the holiday!
Aw, thank goodness for family while you're recovering! Luckily, you'll be around for years and years to see many more Halloweens. 🙂 I am still amazed at your strength and selflessness. xo
That is the cutest duck I have ever seen! And Thomas looks like he didn't miss out a thing! How is you MIL doing with the contacts?
oh gosh how cuteeeee are they! so stinking cute-so glad you shared with us! hope you're feeling somewhat ok & your recovery is going well!
I know it bums you out as a mom but wow the grandmoms got such a special treat! Isn't it a blessing to know how wonderful your family is?!?!?! xo Amanda
They both looked adorable. So thankful for grandmoms who are willing to step in and make their holiday memorable. Continue to keep you all in prayer.
What's one Halloween missed when you are going to get so many more?! Take that Cancer!! xo
It can't be fun to miss out on the fun, but this time is a blip in the grand scheme of things. One holiday missed, but so many more to come. Stay strong. Stay positive. Each day that passes is one day closer to being recovered.
