On February 20th my parents will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary! I really need some cute gift ideas and I only have a few weeks to pull it off. Help!
What have you done for your parent’s milestone anniversaries?
Last year for my parents' 25th anniversary I used an Adobe program to design them a Subway art print and then blew it up and framed it. On it, I put their proposal date, wedding date, full names, wedding location, first house's address, mine and my brother's names and birth dates, and their current home city. They absolutely loved it, AND dad won't ever forget an anniversary! 😉 Haha
This wasn't for a milestone anniversary, but at the time we were living with them and they were (and ARE) such huge helps in our lives that my husband and I really wanted to do something nice for them. They had mentioned plans for a date night, including the movie they wanted to see and what restaurant they were planning on going to. We rushed to go buy a GC for the restaurant, their movie tickets so they wouldn't have to stand in line, and their favorite movie candy to get to them before their date night. It was a small gesture, but very special to them.
My parents celebrated their 25th anniversary last year. Actually, i wanted to surprise them with a cruise or a vacation, but that wasn't in my budget.Instead i surprised them with a little party. Here, the 25th anniversary is traditionally known as the silver wedding, so i decorated with large silver paper flowers and all kinds of silver stuff. I also found a beautiful vintage cake plate at the thrift store, that said something like Happy Silver Wedding. So, depending on your budget you could send them on a vacation, perhaps back to the place where they spent their honeymoon. Or how about having their wedding photo turned into a painting? I'm sure there are some great artists on Etsy who could do that. Also, if you search for newlywed gifts on Etsy you will find tons of inspiration. Some of them are an easy DIY, such as photo coasters or the first dance song lyrics painted on canvas.
Hey there anonymous,Yep! Maybe one day I'll share the full story publicly, but my birth mom passed away when I was very young, and my dad remarried when I was 6 years old. Would love for you to publicly "follow" my blog using Google Friend Connect in my sidebar. xo, Christina
I wish I could "follow" you and all my other blog friends; but I am not allowed to. So, Anonymous I'll have to stay. If it is a problem, let me know and I will not reply any more.I see that your parents live in Florida…is it possible for a Wedding Anniversary Gift, that you could invite them to visit you in your new home and plan a lovely weekend of touring, eating and spending time with each other? To me, spending time is the best gift of all.
what would I gave to my parents? a holiday ticket to Jogja or Bali (where I live), they'll celebrate their 51 anniv this june!http://sepatuholig.blogspot.com/
For our parents anniversary last year we made them a card…on the front was a picture of them on their wedding day and inside we put a special message. We used Hallmark but i'm sure their are several companies that you can use online. We also got them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. They loved it and mom cried so I knew we did good.Excited to see what you think of!
What about taking a photo from their wedding and then a more recent photo of them (perhaps from your wedding or another family event?) and making it into a piece of artwork? Or a beautiful canvas print they can hang in their house? Let us know what you decide. 🙂
I love all these photo ideas! I'm sure you've already looked these up, but the "traditional" 20th anniversary gift is china and the "modern" gift is platinum. Maybe you can somehow incorporate one of those in for a unique photo gift?
A grandbaby!Hahahaha, I kid, I kid 🙂 (kinda)I don't know if you'll be celebrating with them or not. For a recent anniversary when my parents were in town, we took them out to dinner. I worked with the manager beforehand and got a great table reserved and dropped off a framed pic of them on their wedding day and a modern photo too (that I know my mom loves b/c she said she "looks hot" in it). When we walked up to the table it had the framed pics on it and lit candles. She started crying and Dad was so touched too.
I took black and white pictures of specific letters and numbers at places that were directly connected to our family (street name of the house my parents live in, their childhood homes, letters from favorite restaurants, our church, schools, etc). I then bought a large frame (16x20ish) and Hobby Lobby was able to create a custom mat (for cheap!), based on how we wanted everything spaced out. At the top, I used the various letters to spell out "LOVE". In the middle was a B&W picture of my parents on their wedding day. Towards the bottom, I used the numbers to "spell" out their anniversary date. You can order a lot of these premade frames online, but I loved the personalized touch. We later included a listing of where each letter came from to reference in the future. It was an creative present that meant a lot to my parents–definitely a tear-jerker! It's easily customized based on what's important to your family!
I have been trying to think of something cool but I am at a loss. There are lots of great ideas here. I am sure that if they get to spend time with you, that will make it a great anniversary. I know our parents are so excited every time we all get together. I am sure that would be present enough. 🙂 And maybe a delicious cake.

20th Anniversary?? I thought you were 25. Did they get married after you were born?

We got my parents a gift card to a really nice restaurant that I know they've never been to for their 40th. They really enjoyed it!
