If you’ve
walked into a Lowes or Home Depot within the last month you’ve probably noticed
their huge selection of plants,
flowers and herbs they’ve stocked for spring. As soon as spied the racks of
succulents I immediately did a happy dance and piled them into my basket,
completely forgetting my original purpose for being in Home Depot. Then I
grabbed a few other planty things and headed home to decorate the house.
Since
keeping the house stocked with fresh flowers is an expensive habit, plants are
a great alternative for brightening up areas of your home. They are
inexpensive, require little maintenance, last forever {if you take care of them}
and breathe life into a room.
If you are
nervous about committing to a houseplant, start with a succulent. You can’t
kill it. In fact, succulents thrive
off of neglect. And don’t you dare purchase a pre-made succulent garden from a hardware store. You can make them for so much cheaper! The ones I saw at Home Depot were $25+ and I made mine for around $12.
I purchased my succulents for $3 each from Home Depot.
Since succulents require well-drained soil, make sure you splurge on a small bag of cactus soil (less than $5).
I also picked up river pebbles from Michael’s for less than $2 (with a weekly 40% off coupon).
I love how good this trio looks on my coffee table.
I also couldn’t resist bringing this little curly guy home with me too.
Doesn’t this fern make you so happy? I put it in my kitchen.
I also created a little inspiration board for the rest of my indoor planty projects to come…

As for the outside, I have lots and lots of upcoming spring plants and herb projects! Over St. Patty’s Day, I picked up two Boston Ferns for $10 each at Home Depot. Since the day we found this house, I have dreamed of hanging these pretty plants from the porch. I am obsessed with them!
More spring updates to come…

this post makes me so happy! Plants are on our agenda for the weekend, hoping that the weather will oblige. Still obsessed with your ferns and that porch, ahh!!
So cute. I def. don't have a green thumb, and this is a great idea! Just started following your blog. Love all your house decoration ideas. You are inspiring!
Adorbs. I think we go to Home Depot every weekend in the Spring. Will most likely be there this weekend!
oooh love that little succulent garden! So cute!
So so pretty! :)Do you know if succulents can live outdoors? (I'm obviously not a green thumb!) I can't keep plants indoors b/c one of my kitties will eat them!
come do my house next! 😉 we spent 3 hours monday night AFTER WORK pulling weeds! WELCOME SPRING! it does look SO much better, though – worth all the sore muscle pain!
You mean there IS a plant that is safe for black-thumbed plant killers like me? I will have to look into these succulent creatures…
Love all of your inspiration. I have a ton of outside plant and herb projects on my "To Do List", but have to wait until May to plant anything outdoors in my area. I might have to try a succulent garden to hold me over until then. I love it!
I bought some succulents and I don't know if I over-watered them or if they weren't getting enough sun, but they don't look good. I thought for sure I could at least keep them alive! haha!! whoops.
Those succulents are beautiful, I love that look! I will definitely have to do something like this when we move to our new house 🙂
love this post! every time i go to lowes I want to pick up some succulents, they are just so cute! i might have to try this at our home soon! we have no house plants, mostly because i usually kill them, but these may actually last.
Perfect timing! My orchid at my desk that I've been trying to keep alive finally kicked the bucket this weeks after four months. Definitely replacing it with some succulents this weekend!
I have been wanting to add some succulents to my work desk! Time to hit up HD this weekend (like we aren't there every single weekend anyway…)!
I have been trying to think of different low maintenance plant ideas for around our house and this hit the nail on the head! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
drive on over to Nashville please friend…my green thumb isn't so green this spring and I need your help – hehe
