Another fun month in the books for our little Tom Tom! He is all over the place now, crawling at 15 mph, climbing up any stable (or unstable) object, getting into everything (dog bowl, tupperware drawer, dishwasher and more). He keeps us on our toes more than Caroline these days!
In aphakia (absence of the lens in the eye) news, Thomas is doing pretty good. At his last eye doctor appointment he was officially diagnosed with stabismus (eye misalignment) and his left eye is stronger than his right. We began patching his “good eye” to make him use his “bad eye” for two hours every morning and we’ve seen tremendous improvement. Without patching, we risk his bad eye shutting down and turning off (blindness) so we’re happy to now be on the patching journey. We were strongly warned that patching is pretty terrible and that he would likely rip the patch off 6 times per minute until we’d just give up. But again, our angel boy has taken it like a champ. He hates when we place it and remove it from his face but once it’s on he really doesn’t mind. I honestly don’t know how we got so blessed with such a laid back baby.
So we’re going to be patching until a little after Thomas turns one. Sometime late summer or early fall Thomas will need a surgery to correct his strabismus. And we’ve already been warned that this procedure sometimes takes up to 3 surgeries until the eyes are perfectly aligned. So we’re already praying that Thomas will only need one surgery.
On to some really fun stuff this month…

That picture of them by the window just kills me! They are both so darling. What little blessings they are!
I'm so happy to hear that the patching is going well! I hope that he only needs the one surgery too!Love the photos–you can tell just how sweet he is! 🙂
So sweet, this pictures oh my goodness! Why do the kiddos always go straight for the dog bowl?! I can't keep my little one away. So happy to hear you guys know what's going on and that patching is going well. My little sister wore a patch when she was little and has had great eye control and eyesight (with her glasses) ever since. Have a great weekend!Erin, Attention to Darlingwww.attentiontodarling.com
How is he already 9 months!!! Such a cutie and that's awesome he's taking the patches like a champ!!
That is awesome that he is taking the patching like a champ. So much easier to find out about this when he is young. I was diagnosed with a visual learning disorder when I was in middle school called "Convergence insufficiency disorder" in laymen terms I have an eye teaming issue. My right eye is my good eye and my left eye has a mind of it's own! I hated patching but through many years of vision therapy – at a wonderful center here in Charleston – I was able to overcome the battle of the left eye. I am still legally blind in that eye but with all of the new advancements and constant innovation I live a very normal life. Best wishes and prayers to Thomas on his upcoming surgeries and kudos to you and your husband for taking all of this on like champs – it definitely isn't easy but trust me from someone who is so thankful her parents shelled out tons of money for me to have "normal eyes" it is SO worth it.
Poor little man with all his eye happenings- so glad he's handling it like a sweet little dchamp though! He is so smiley and adorable! Happy 9!
Ahhh THESE PICTURES! He is adorable.
