I confess! I am a bit of a podcast junkie. I usually listen to them to fall asleep or I’ll turn one on if I randomly wake up at 2 am and need a distraction from making mental to-do lists. Anyway, normally I prefer my podcasts to be pretty dark (looking at you Sword & Scale) and crime related if it’s just me listening. And if Matt is listening, I usually turn on Stuff You Should Know, which is a really fascinating podcast on how stuff works. Anyway, I recently stumbled on the podcast Happier by Gretchen Rubin and am hooked! I really enjoyed her book, The Happiness Project (see my book review here) but her podcasts are even better because they are short and I can listen on my way to work. I have already jumped on board with so many of her tips for creating small habits that make you happier! In fact, I’m a huge fan on her “one minute rule” for tackling clutter or other small tasks.
My new job is going great! Naturally I was nervous to make such a huge change in my career (and I miss my old coworkers something fierce!) but each day I have realized more and more how tremendous this opportunity and change of pace is for me! I have also promised myself not to collect an obscene amount of napkins and silverware in my new desk drawers.
Caroline has hit a monumental milestone — pony tails. Last week Caroline came home with her first ponytail and I was liiiiike “what the what?! we can get those hairs in a pony tail?!” So at her request I dressed her in a ponytail the next day (and every day since) and it is so hilarious to me. And also impressive considering she lost half of her hair the night before in a remote control car accident that somehow got stuck in her hair and had to be cut out. I swear Matt was near tears as he removed the car. He kept sadly mumbling over and over again “but, but, it took her THREE YEARS to get this hair!!!”
Now tell me what’s new with you! And which podcasts do you listen to?!
My husband thinks I'm plotting to kill him in his sleep with all of the true crime podcasts I listen to! My fave lately has been True Crime Brewery. It took me a couple of episodes to get used to the hosts (they are super smart but def have a dry sense of humor – not over the top like a lot of podcast personalities) but they are really good stories! I can't believe you had to cut a toy car out of Caroline's hair?! What the heck?!
I am into home design podcasts lately, my favorites are Young House Love and Chris Loves Julia. Spawned is also a good one about parenthood. I just started listening to Happier as well!
I love The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey! It's like girlfriends chatting and it's so fun and encouraging !
I recently discovered podcasts (not sure why it took me so long!) and I love the Longest Shortest Time, it's about parenting and they interview really interesting people about their experiences. I highly recommend! Funny enough I also just started the Happiness Project One Sentence Journal, I'll have to check out her book too!
The Big Boo Cast, is a great podcast!
yay for the new job going well!!
I'm a podcast junkie too and have been looking for a "self help" podcast so that's for the recommendation! I love that Caroline has reached her ponytail #goals! I own a bow shop and who love to send some bows to y'all if you're interested 🙂
Hmm I use to love listening to podcast and I love the true life crime stories. I definitely need to check them out again.
I didn't have hair until I was almost four, so I feel Caroline's excitement over finally having a ponytail!
Aw man, the cutest little ponytail!! I have never got into Podcasts, I am a reading rather than listening girl x
love The Pop Cast
I absolutely love your blog and your sweet family. Thank you for sharing this post. I always listen to audio books from the library and never thought about podcasts. I love your new home and following all the changes. I have following you since before Caroline was born and feel like a part of your family. Thank you for sharing your sweet family with us strangers. I have been praying for your Dad ?Lisa from Indiana.
Ok, I laughed out loud at your accumulating napkins and silverware in your desk drawers. SUCH a problem over here! I work at a hospital and the cafeteria is on the same floor as my office – it's SO easy to run and grab napkins and utensils when I need one…and I always grab extra, because you just never know! haha I'm just now getting into podcasts, but have loved Jamie Ivey's show so far and The Pop Cast. I have Young House Love saved for my next one.
if you're into any bravo related but mostly Housewives, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Bitch Sesh. I look forward to a new episode every week.
I love How I built This by NPR!
Favorite Podcasts:FreakonomicsUp and Vanished – great crime podcast about a real life caseHow I Built This – talks to entreprenuers – super interesting (Kate Spade, Alli Webb from Dry Bar, Patagonia founder)S-Town – definitely not for children and totally different than I expected but a very interesting perspective and worth the listen
Oh man, poor girl! My little one had a late start to hair growing as well and now it's just a big mess of semi-curls at age 3.5! I love the Shameless Mom Academy for when I need some inspiration. I'm assuming you already listened to Serial, but their next one – S-Town – is out now too! I've also heard of My First Murder which looks super interesting!https://hotmesscoolday.wordpress.com
Ohh poor Caroline! She's waited a long time for those ponies- glad she can still rock one after the incident! We had the same incident when Tell turned one a few months ago and Lawter wasted no time getting a remote control car wheel wrapped up in her hair and Anthony cut a chunk out- fortunately she has lots to spare! ha Glad you're liking the new job!
This American Life is an awesome podcast!
I love Podcasts too! I have that book but have never read. My new favorite podcast is Risen Motherhood.
Love listening to "sexy marriage radio". Good advice and commentary on marriage, love, and all the stuff in between.
Uh…am I your only ready that doesn't listen to podcasts? LOL We were at a Christmas party and so much of the conversation was dominated by people talking about a crime drama podcast that they loved! Perhaps its time to look into this. I love Carolines little pony tail 🙂
thanks for the podcast suggestions!! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
I always run to Anna Faris is Unqualified, makes them go so fast and she's hysterical with her guests. Definitely don't leave any smarter, but very entertaining.
I love the Happiness podcast! I also like Young House Love Has a Podcast, Side Hustle School, and 10% Happier with Dan Harris.
