Grab a cup of coffee and get comfy, because this month’s Coffee Chat is going to look a little different. Instead of answering questions or diving into life updates, I thought it’d be fun to reintroduce myself—especially since there are lots of new faces around here!
My original fun facts post went up in 2016 (which feels like a lifetime ago), so chances are, many of you don’t know some of these things about me. Whether you’ve been here since the wedding planning days or just recently found your way to this corner of the internet, I hope you enjoy this little list of random facts—some weird, some nostalgic, and a few that may surprise you!

- I’m 5 Subway subs tall (well, technically not even. I’m 4’11”). Readers are always so surprised by this when they meet me in person.
- My first car was a red 1994 Chevy S10 pickup truck with a stick shift. I drove it until it gave out in college.
- I originally planned to live in Charlotte for just a few years before heading back to Florida. Then I met Matt at a bar a few months after moving here… and, well, here we are.
- I’ve never colored my hair. As a kid, I was mad my mom wouldn’t let me use “Sun In” like everyone else (including my siblings!), but now I’m glad she held her ground.
- I spent a summer as a camp counselor in Pisgah National Forest and absolutely fell in love with North Carolina—that experience is what made me want to move to Charlotte after graduation.
- For my 18th birthday, my dad gifted me scuba diving certification so we could go diving together. Still one of my favorite shared memories with him.
- I was a Kappa Delta at the University of Florida and lived in the sorority house for three years. Still one of the best parts of my college experience.
- I have really good handwriting. As a kid I would spend hours tracing different fonts and creating binders full of alphabets. (Yes, it was a whole personality trait.)
- I do not like bowling. At all.
- My favorite concert I’ve ever been to was Stevie Nicks—she was absolutely iconic. A close second? Jimmy Buffett. Nothing beats a Parrothead crowd in full party mode.
- Lakes kind of freak me out. I’ve always preferred the ocean.
- Tequila is my favorite spirit, and I’ve been working on building a little additive-free collection over the years.
- I can only jump rope backwards.
- In middle school I broke my left arm and my left hip in a rollerblading accident. And I still love to rollerblade to this day.
- Two of my biggest pet peeves are being seated in an empty restaurant… at the only table right next to another group of guests. And people who don’t RSVP to invitations.
- I had a prophylactic double mastectomy in 2015. You can read more about that here.
- I LOVE playing board and card games — and I especially love hosting themed Mahjong nights with friends.
- In college I saved up and backpacked Europe for a month by myself.
- French fries are my favorite food. I don’t like brownies, chocolate ice cream, or fried chicken.
- I don’t know how to whistle. Or do a cartwheel.

Yes to Jimmy Buffett concerts! That was my first concert and nothing beats Parrotheads! I was like 7 and it is still so vivid in my memory!

AOT! KD from Tennessee Tech. Also, Iโm a vegan and I loved when Matt was for a while and you posted vegan recipes. ๐

I donโt know how to do a cartwheel either!! ๐ Itโs funny because I prefer lakes over ocean as far as swimming because we have the best Great Lakes up here in Michigan (no sharks or jellyfish! ๐) but I love sitting on the beach/dipping my toes into an ocean on vacation. Itโs so peaceful.

so now I'm curious... the handwriting you use for notes to your kids, etc. is that your natural handwriting? Or a version that's more "kid" designed, a la an elementary school teacher? would be fun to see which "fonts" you choose for stuff!
