How to Ripen an Avocado

Looking how to ripen an avocado quickly?

We’ve all been there—ready to make guacamole or add some avocado to your salad, but the fruit is still too firm to work with. Instead of waiting days for it to ripen naturally, here’s a quick and easy hack that will have your avocado ready in no time: place it in a closed paper bag with a banana. Yes, a banana! Within just half a day, your avocado should be well on its way to ripening. The longer it sits, the more it ripens, so you can time it perfectly to be ready when you need it.

I usually toss my avocado in a paper bag on the morning of the day I plan to use it. By the time I get home from work, it’s perfectly squishy and ready to go for dinner. The reason this works is that ripe bananas release a natural gas called ethylene, which speeds up the ripening process of the avocado. It’s simple, effective, and doesn’t require any special tools or chemicals!

If you’ve already cut into your avocado and want to keep it fresh for later, you don’t need to bother with lemon juice or cooking spray. Just place a slice of lemon on the cut side of the avocado and wrap it tightly until you’re ready to use it. The lemon helps keep it from browning, while the wrap keeps everything sealed and fresh.

Next time you’re in a pinch and need a perfectly ripe avocado, try this hack—you’ll be amazed at how quickly and easily it works!

Love love LOVE avocados! I also leave the pit in the avocado half I don't use immediately and wrap in plastic wrap. Most of it stays green until I'm ready to use it the next day. Great tips!!
