Our Charleston Babymoon

When deciding where we would babymoon Matt and I knew we wanted to chose a special destination to us. Immediately I suggested Mexico…and Matt said no pretty quick, refusing to take his pregnant wife out of the country. Okay, fair enough. However, his next words were “what about Charleston?” I agreed on the spot and although we’ve been to Charleston many times together, we’d never really done it big with fancy dinners and such. So 5 months ago we booked it and began counting down to a wonderful weekend away. Well, our babymoon was nothing short of perfect. We stayed at the best bed & breakfast, dined at the most delicious restaurants, shopped King Street and enjoyed every second of our last vacation together as just the two of us, 24.5 weeks pregnant. It was truly perfect in every way.

We arrived in Charleston just in time for a delicious lunch at Butcher & Bee. I’ve never had a more amazing grilled cheese {and fries} in my life. Matt also enjoyed his grits & country ham. After filling our bellies we decided to head to the hotel for an early check in.

We stayed at the Fulton Lane Inn, a charming bed & breakfast located on King Street. And although the hotel is located just steps away from the busiest part of town, it is secluded on a quiet backstreet which made it even more perfect!

At check-in we were informed that we had the best room in the entire hotel – room 338. Our petite suite was absolutely gorgeous with high ceilings, a sitting area with fireplace, a whirlpool tub and a view overlooking King Street!

After a bit of relaxing and admiring our room we set off for a nice walk before having a pre-dinner drink and appetizer at 82 Queen, a quaint restaurant located just a few blocks away in the historic district.

Afterwards we enjoyed a 9 p.m. dinner next door at Poogan’s Porch.

Lucky for us Charleston was celebrating restaurant week so we opted for a delicious 3 course meal.

The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in our room.

Did I mention our suite had phenomenal views of King Street?

The weather couldn’t have been more gorgeous so we spent most of the day shopping King Street and walking the beautiful city.

{a quick bump pic}

We even snagged some shoes for Matt on sale at Banana Republic while we were out.

For lunch we stopped in at Toast!, another highly recommended restaurant {hailed as a “must eat” in Charleston by the New York Times}. We knew we couldn’t go wrong by starting out with some fried green tomatoes! This place definitely lived up to the hype. I can’t wait to come back and take advantage of their $12 bottomless mimosa next time!

Feeling extra stuffed, we decided to head back to the hotel and change into some workout clothes for some exercise around the battery.

Matt was lucky enough to live here for 4 years back when he attended the
College of Charleston so we chose to walk his old 3 mile route he use
to run every day. It was so fun to hear him reminisce his college
stories along the way {which he loves to retell every time we visit}.

Part of our route took us down “Rainbow Row,” one of the most colorful streets in Charleston.

Of course we then needed a little afternoon ice cream treat from The Fudgery afterwards.

For dinner we enjoyed another 3 course meal at 82 Queen. This was one of my favorites. I still can’t get over how amazing the lemon cake {not pictured} was for dessert!

Before leaving town we stopped at Hominy Grill for brunch – a tradition we have every time we visit Charleston. We never miss a meal here during a trip.

Of all our trips to Charleston together, this one was definitely our favorite. We had such a wonderful babymoon and are already excited to bring Caroline here one day {soon}!
