Porch Updates

We had our porch photographed last week and I cannot wait to finally share the finished space. Just as we had anticipated, we pretty much live out here — rain, shine, hot and cold. It’s our most comfortable space to relax as a family in our home and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out! As a reminder, here is the post with our original plans and the before photos!

A few final amateur pictures…

The swing is a popular seat in this space. It’s really comfortable and super cute!

We LOVE our porch!!

Hi Friend! We are in the beginning phases of designing our porch. We’ve debated back & forth on open air or screens & think we are going with open. My only other hesitation is how dark did the roof make your room inside? I’m agonizing over this... do you think the white paint has helped keep the inside of the actual home brighter?

I’d love to know more about the heater you chose and how warm it will keep the area when temps dip low! It looks super nice and I love how it is up high where little hands can’t get burnt!

Curious if you can share more about your thought process for choosing this design versus a screened in porch? I LOVE the look of this but living not far (Raleigh), I am worried about bug/mosquitos and comfort too. Hoping you can share more because that cute candle wouldn't cut it for us all the time. (LOL) Not sure if your fan plays a part in bug free? Do share! And how do you plan to 'winterize' the porch. Thank you SO much....

As for “winterizing,” we plan to use the porch even through some of winter so we installed a powerful ceiling heater. We’ll cover the dining table and chairs since it’s exposed to the elements for winter but not the couch!

We spent SOOO much time going back and forth on this!!! Ultimately we decided to keep it opened because we wanted that open air vibe...and because we knew we could always screen it in later if we wanted to...but now that we’ve spent so much time out here we LOVE it open and will definitely keep it that way!!! For mosquitoes, we have our yard sprayed 1-2 times a month, we use citronella candles and a thermacell (sometimes even 2 thermacells, if it’s really bad out)!

Curious about what you do to keep the bugs away? I saw the citronella candle but is there something else?

We have our yard sprayed every 3 weeks for mosquitos!!! I’m a magnet for those things so we sometimes have is sprayed even a second time in between sprays! We also ALWAYS use a thermacell when we are outside and it works like magic.
