DIY Trick-or-Treat Pillowcases: An Easy Halloween Party Craft

Looking for a fun Halloween party craft that the tweens and teens will actually want to make (and use for trick-or-treating)?! These DIY trick-or-treat pillowcases were such a hit at our Halloween party!

The girls loved decorating their pillowcases with colorful markers, pearls, and rhinestones. Everyone got to put their own spin on their design, and the best part is that they left with personalized trick-or-treat bags they can use on Halloween night!

This is such an easy activity for a tween Halloween party, classroom celebration, or a group of friends getting together before trick-or-treating.

Supplies for DIY Trick-or-Treat Pillowcases

You only need a handful of supplies for this Halloween craft, and it’s easy to set everything out so the kids can decorate at their own pace. You can find the links for all the supplies HERE!

  • White pillowcases: One per person. Plain pillowcases give everyone plenty of room to decorate.
  • Fabric markers: A variety of colors for drawing, writing names, and adding Halloween designs.
  • Beads: For adding a little extra personality to each pillowcase. We used pearls and rhinestones.
  • Glue: Choose a fabric-compatible adhesive for attaching the beads.
  • Cardboard/paper: Place inside each pillowcase to prevent markers or glue from bleeding through to the other side. We used brown paper grocery bags.

How to Decorate Trick-or-Treat Pillowcases

This is one of those Halloween party activities that requires very little preparation, which is exactly what I love about it.

  1. Add a protective layer. Slide a brown paper grocery bag or piece of cardboard inside each pillowcase to prevent the markers and glue from bleeding through.
  2. Start decorating! Let everyone personalize their pillowcases with fabric markers. Pinterest is great for a little design inspiration!
  3. Add embellishments. Use fabric glue to attach beads, pearls, rhinestones, and other decorations. Would also be cute to add some festive ribbon.
  4. Let everything dry. Take your pillowcases trick-or-treating!

A Fun Halloween Classroom Party Craft

This would also be such a fun craft for a classroom Halloween party! Set out a pillowcase for each student, divide the markers among the tables, and let everyone create their trick-or-treat bag. For larger groups, I’d skip the glue and embellishments to keep things simple.

Halloween Party Snacks

Another highlight of our Halloween party was the snack table!

Each girl brought a Halloween-themed dish to share, and I was genuinely so impressed by how creative everyone got. The table was packed with the cutest spooky treats!

Having everyone bring something made the food so easy to pull together, and it was fun seeing what each girl came up with.
