Week 28 Bumpdate

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments last week about my glucose test! We passed! And I have to say, this appointment was by far our favorite yet. While waiting the hour to have my blood drawn, we got the best ultrasound ever {can I just say again how much I love my new doctor and all the staff at our practice?!}. The ultrasound tech spent so much time with us and was so happy and excited to show us every little detail of our little girl. She gave us tons of pictures and was even able to snap a shot of Caroline smiling!!!! It was probably one of the coolest moments to date for us, watching her play with her feet, suck her thumb, open her eyes and SMILE. She has so much personality now and I can't wait to get her on the other side of my belly! We are so grateful for her health, a smooth pregnancy and our doctor!
How far along: 28 weeks! We are officially in our THIRD TRIMESTER! Has the time flown by or what? I have to say, I fall more and more in love with this baby girl each day so I can't wait for these last few months to hurry up and pass!

Baby Size: An eggplant! Baby weighs 2.25 pounds and measures 14.8 inches from head to heel!

Weight gain: 21 pounds.

Maternity clothes: Just ordered two new spring dresses - one for my baby shower and another
for my maternity shoot next month! I had to order them in several sizes because who knows what my belly will look like by then and how things will fit.

Stretch marks: Still no sign! I think, anyway.

Sleep: Same. I have good nights and bad. Recently the leg cramps have gotten out of control, so I sleep so lightly in fear of overstretching my leg and bringing on a serious charlie horse. Poor Matt, he wakes up to me screaming and immediately starts trying to massage my leg while I laugh and cry in pain all at once.
And I also have to mention that Charlie has become so concerned with getting his quality time with his baby sister lately. When he isn't camped out in her nursery, patrolling the fabric swatches, he sits next to the bed waiting for me to get in so he can jump up and lay his head on my belly and hug Caroline. I can not make this stuff up. He is the best big brother ever.
Gender: Girl!

Movement: We learned why my ligament along my right side is always hurting when I walk - Caroline is sitting on it so every time I walk she just bounces up and down on it - super ouch.
We also learned she is still breech, which the doctor told us not to worry about yet {we just need her to flip by 35 weeks to avoid c-section} but we are definitely trying out old wives tales to get her moving. I've moved my headphones to the lower part of my belly in hopes her little ears will want to get closer to the music. Any other ideas for getting a baby to move out of the breech position?

Best moment this week: Gosh, so many! Date night with friends, having Matt's parents in town for the day and shopping for nursery furniture!
{some of the goodies from Grandma}
Looking forward to: Valentine's Day!

Food cravings:  My candy intake has slightly increased recently. I feel like I have little stashes of bite sized Reese cups and Twix bars everywhere - my jacket pockets, purse, desk drawer, car, etc.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing.
Labor Signs: Nope!
What I miss: Sleep!
Symptoms: Leg cramps, pregnancy insomnia and round ligament pains.

Nursery: This week we finished up a few small projects. I am hoping to have a post up soon on our progress.
Belly Button in or out? In, but getting more shallow each day.

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Mood: Unbelievably anxious to meet our girl.

Workouts: Only made it to the gym twice this week. Eek!
Prayer for Caroline:
Lord Jesus, Thank You for helping me make it this far in my pregnancy, and for the way You will help me through these final months. Continue to teach me to be open to You and to trust in You. Protect me from complications and safeguard my health and Caroline's health during this final trimester. Lead me and guide me as I prepare my birth plan. I praise Your holy name! Amen.
"Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

  1. Check out spinningbabies.com for exercises on how to get her head down

  2. Oh my gosh that picture of Charlie with your belly is so precious!! Love all of those ultrasound photos too, so exciting!! :)

  3. Charlie is so, so sweet snuggling up to your belly like that! He definitely knows! You look so pretty in the pink sweater! Such a great color for you! Happy to hear your loving your doctors and staff too! Happy Tuesday girlie! :)

  4. I love that color on you! You have the absolute cutest pregnant belly I have ever seen :) So glad everything went so well at the doctor's office!

  5. We used a chiropractor to get our little one head down. It was completely different than what I envisioned. They literally swiped their thumb across by then 34 week belly and I could feel (and see her) flip and turn! It was great! She still ended up being sunny side up and I had to go several times, but it worked!! Oh and EarthFare has this great homeopathic stuff (doc said safe to use during pregnancy, but double check) for leg cramps. It was SUCH a lifesaver in the middle of the night. It's from Boiron. Good luck!!!

  6. Do you mind emailing me the practice you are at? I am getting a little frustrated with mine in Charlotte. I'm so jealous of your ultrasound! I've only had two with this baby :( so hard when I had 8 with the twins! I also learned yesterday I have a breech baby too. Let me know if anything works to turn that baby!

  7. Okay...that pic with Charlie and your belly is too precious! Like...makes me want to tear up because of the sweetness!!! Bless his big brother heart!!! So unbelievably sweet! xx

  8. Could you be any cuter w. that little banner?! You look great and the picture of Charlie melts my heart, dogs are the best. Babies, too of course! ; )

  9. This color looks fabulous on you, you are absolutely glowing...and how precious is Charlie, oh my goodness!

  10. Ahhh you look so cute! So glad your appointment went well! Hudson was breech too (and never moved!) but I did do lots of things like headphones with music but also yoga positions like downward dog, went swimming, and saw a chiropractor who specialized in the webster technique (something that helps babies flip) 3 times a week for adjustments. Obviously they didn't work for me, but good luck!

  11. So exciting for you! Charlie looks like the sweetest big brother (typical labrador!!). Happy to hear everything went well at your appointment :)

  12. I've been reading your blog for a few months now but never posted. I wished you lived in Minnesota - I feel like we could be friends ;-)

I'm due with my first baby, also a girl! on March 11th. I started going to the chiropractor at 30 weeks as baby was breach and just went in for my 36 week check yesterday and sure enough, she flipped her little self around and we are now good to go!

I had never been to the chiropractor before getting pregnant and I took the recommendation of several mama friends on the one I went to see. I truly do believe though that his adjustments plus stretches he gave me to do at home loosened up my pelvis and everything enough to get her to flip around - just a thought, might be something to look into!

  13. im glad you had a good appointment :) !! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  14. Love following your journey, and this photo is adorable!

For leg cramps, I seem to remember bananas really helping me b/c of the potassium. I still remember waking up to those!

  15. What a sweet pic of your pup and your baby bump! So glad everything went well at your appointment and you were able to get some good ultrasound shots. How cute that she was smiling!! ahhh!!

  16. I love that pink sweater! Such a festive outfit for this week. And your pup cuddling with you and the babe is precious! I'm sure he will be just as cute with her when she is out. Enjoy the last trimester of your pregnancy!

  17. So adorable that Charlie cuddles/hugs your belly!!! What a great big brother--he will love Caroline like crazy once she is here :)

  18. such a happy post! and oh my gosh your dog is melting my heart! so so so sweet. Xx.

  19. So cute! I took a picture of my cat near my belly with the Christmas tree in the background just a week or so before I delivered and when I was up all the time in the middle of the night. :-/

Don't worry about baby and whether you have to have a c-section or not. (Of course, prayers for a healthy and routine pregnancy for you!!)

A c-section was certainly not in my plans, but after going through all the pain of labor (dilated to a NINE), baby's heart rate dropped and I had to do the c-section to keep baby healthy. (He wasn't even breached.) Though not in the plans to deliver this way, when it comes to "go time", the desire to get baby out healthy outweighs any notions you had about having a certain delivery. Trust me! You will be fine! :)

And just so you know--you look amazing!! Very excited for you!! :)

  20. oh my gosh. i love everything about this post! sweet sweet charlie!

  21. 3rd trimester already?! Lovin how grandma knows exactly what baby girl needs ;)

  22. How fun to see her so much in the ultrasound!!

  23. Yay for passing your glucose test!! And isn't shopping for baby girl clothes the most fun? It never gets old :)

  24. A good ultrasound tech is so hard to find! These last weeks fly by enjoy them!

  25. I love following your story! And you look amazing. :)

About getting little Caroline to flip, I've heard that if you put a bag of frozen veggies or something on top of your belly it might encourage her to turn. I haven't tried it myself, but I have heard about people doing it. :)

  26. I just love these bump dates - they make my week! And even more so that things are going so well, and everything is happy and healthy. Well done mama, for baking such a precious bun x

  27. You look absolutely amazing! I am so happy that you passed your glucose test - I had mine earlier this week too - that glucolaid stuff is DISGUSTING! Next time I'm asking for the jelly bean test - seriously look it up ;) I'm having a giveaway to PinkBlush Maternity - you should check it out!

  28. Happy 3rd Tri! :) That is just so sweet about Charlie ... what a sweet, sweet boy he is! Warms my heart!

  29. Glucose tests are the worst-- so glad you passed. You champ!! Your growing belly is the cutest! I love the collage of belly pics that you did. Happy 3rd Trimester! In no time we will All be commenting on how precious the Princess is and I can't wait. This pregnancy journey has been so fun to share with you! You are so incredibly blessed-- it's beautiful.

  30. I can totally relate to your comment about sleeping so lightly in fear of leg cramps!! I am only 17 weeks, but can feel my calves tightening up (and know from my first pregnancy the pain!!). I learned that the best thing is to get out of bed (slowly in pain I know), and stand on that leg--putting as much pressure on it as possible. It releases the charlie horse quicker than trying to rub it out.

My husband is a fire fighter, and is gone every 3rd day---it seems like they would always happen when he was gone, and so this method came in real handy for those days!

Bananas help, stretching your calves before bedtime, and warm baths :) Oh the joys of pregnancy!

  31. I would love to get the name of your practice/OB as well!! Super cute pics:)

  32. I suffered from the leg cramps as well--those were awful! This is a strange tip, but it really worked for me. eat a banana before bed every night. Doing that kept the leg cramps at bay until the very end of the pregnancy for me!
