Happy Birthday Matt!

Today is Matt’s birthday! And since we love birthdays we chose to celebrate all.weekend.long. It was awesome.

The first {and most important} detail of the birthday celebration? CAKE! This year I went all out on a homemade layered sprinkle cake.

And since it was Matt’s birthday, I let him pick the cake filling. Of all the flavors, he chose black cherry?? That boy never ceases to surprise me.

I have a detailed layered birthday cake tutorial post coming this week, so stay tuned! In the meantime, you should also check out the Fresh Strawberry Coconut Cake I baked for Matt last year {here}!

For his birthday breakfast, I made Matt’s favorite maple burst pancakes, bacon, sausage and fresh fruit topped with sprinkles and coconut.

As you probably have already figured out, we love to spoil each other with gifts and this year was no exception. Of course I couldn’t wait until his actual birthday, so I let Matt open 1-2 presents each day leading up to his birthday.

Side note: After I wrapped his gifts I went back to last year’s {birthday post} and saw I wrapped the gifts the exact same way. I guess my craft paper & jute obsession hasn’t worn off yet.

After we opened gifts and had a few cocktails then headed to the McNinch House for dinner. This romantic little restaurant has been on our Charlotte restaurant bucket list for years and Matt’s birthday was the perfect excuse to finally go!

 Isn’t this place simply stunning?!

And check out this handsome guy…

When we sat down for dinner we were informed that a special bourbon drink had been purchased by our good friends for Matt. How sweet is that?! It was the perfect surprise to kick off 7 courses of food!

Yes, I said SEVEN courses. The dinner was fabulous. We had sorbet between courses to “cleanse the pallet” and everything. It was so delicious and romantic. Out of 14 plates of food, I was well behaved and only took a few pictures.

And since they delivered the courses very slowly we had the opportunity to enjoy a few too many martinis and glasses of bubbly. It was perfect.

At the end of dinner they delivered a rose to me {and the bill to Matt, ha}!

Happy Birthday, Matt! I can’t imagine life without you. Cheers to 33! I love you!
