Homemade Taco Seasoning
Yields approximately 1.25 cups of taco seasoning {which is more than 10 packets of store bought taco seasoning}!
- 1/4 cup Ground Cumin
- 1/4 cup Garlic Powder
- 1/4 cup Chili Powder
- 1/4 cup Onion Powder
- 4 tbsp Crushed Red Pepper
-
Mix all ingredients together! Store in freezer.
Back to the tacos…
Next, grab your favorite salsa {grab fresh salsa if you can}. The jars have more sodium than the kind you can find in the produce section. I’ve been using Jack’s Special Salsa.
Season your chicken breasts with your taco seasoning and place them in your crockpot. Then dump your salsa in.
Cook on high for 4 to 6 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. When done, the chicken should shred easily when stirred with a fork.
And that’s how you get dinner on the table in less than 5 minutes.
Fast Family Dinner: Healthy Crockpot Chicken Tacos

-
Sprinkle taco seasoning on top.
-
Pour salsa over chicken.
-
Cook on low for 5-6 hours (or high for 4). When done, the chicken should shred easily when stirred with a fork.
-
Spoon chicken into hard or soft shell tacos. Add avocado, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese or any of your favorite toppings!
I love jacks salsa!!! It is always on my Costco shopping list!
ummmm yum. Thanks for this healthy alternative!
This looks amazing! I need to try!
I love using my crockpot to make tacos! We make this almost once a week!!
That looks yummy!
These look so good!!! You need your own newsletter that you email with recipes or something!
These sound delicious…I've been trying to cut out MSG (gives me headaches) and I have all these on hand for homemade taco seasoning….also I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jacks's Salsa. Now I just need a crockpot……
We love any type of taco in our house! I for sure just need to make up my own taco mix, especially since I have all of those seasonings already on hand. Thanks for the recipe!
So yummy! We make a similar crockpot chicken recipe and love it!
that looks AMAZE
My mouth is now watering!! These will definitely be in the crock pot for dinner tomorrow night!! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
yeah girl! I make this chicken almost every other week (except I cheat and use the horrible-for-you pre-made mix). Andrew swears that it's so much better than the restaurant chicken tacos! We love to eat the chicken over rice too – just mix in black beans and corn!
Okay, wow. I am making MSG tacos tonight. Already bought the kit. Darn. Next time I will be using this for sure.
This is in our crockpot right now! Cannot wait for dinner! Yum!
I make my own seasoning but why do you store it in the freezer? Does it keep the ingredients fresher?
That's the same taco seasoning recipe I use! I've figured out that if I only want to make enough for one batch, I use 1 1/2 tsp. of the first 4 ingredients and a scant 1/2 tsp. of crushed red pepper flakes.
this post made me soooo hungry :)XOXO-Bunnie http://the2qualleys.blogspot.com/
I need to make these. I still haven't opened my crock pot. Whoops.
This recipe looks so easy – I love it! Thanks for the tip on homemade taco seasoning, too!
I recently started making my own taco seasoning and I can't believe I didn't start sooner! Not only does it taste better, but I love knowing exactly what's in it (no mystery chemicals). Will definitely have to try this recipe!
This look super yummy. I'm not a pinterest gal.. although I do have an "account". I'm totally writing this down and trying it. We aren't a big chicken eating couple but we've tried new things lately and have had good luck (I've had stomach issues after having 80% of it removed). The Mister will be happy about this recipe!
This is genius! Can't wait to try!
These tacos look so delicious! I am definitely going to make these next time I'm in the mood for Mexican! Lauren, http://www.atouchofsoutherngrace.blogspot.com
This is one of my favorite meals…and you're right, so easy! Thanks for sharing your taco seasoning recipe. I know it's so easy to make your own, but I always seem to be picking up one of those seasoning packets. Now I am ready for next time!
This looks delicious! And you're right, the store bought stuff does kind of creep me out. I'll definitely be making this! Thanks! Amanda @ Running In Heelsamandarollo.blogspot.com
