School Snack Ideas don’t get cuter (or easier!) than these DIY pencil snack bags! They’re perfect for celebrating all sorts of school occasions—whether it’s back-to-school, 100 days of school, teacher appreciation week, the last day of school, a fun snack and activity for classroom parties, a school bake sale, or even a thoughtful surprise snack after a big test.
I was so excited to have Woman’s Day Magazine feature these adorable treats in their August/September 2024 issue! These pencil snack bags are not only super fun but also simple to make, making them a perfect choice for any school celebration.
Here’s how I made them…

School Snack Ideas: Pencil Snack Ingredients
- 12″ Disposable Piping Bags: These serve as the base for the pencil shape, giving you a sturdy “pencil” structure for your snack creation.
- Ruler Grosgrain Ribbon: Adds a cute finishing touch to the pencil by acting as the “ruler” part of the snack—this ribbon gives the pencil a fun, realistic look.
- Lead: Mini chocolate chips are perfect for filling the tip of the piping bag, mimicking the pencil’s lead. The smaller size helps fill the tip more efficiently than regular-sized chips.
- Wood: Popcorn works as the “wood” of the pencil, and I use pre-popped popcorn to save time and make the process even quicker.
- Body: Goldfish are the body of the pencil, adding a cheesy, crunchy element that kids will love.
- Ferrule: Hershey Kisses are used as the “metal” part of the pencil (called the ferrule), and they add a sweet chocolatey touch to the snack.
- Eraser: The pink Starburst (or all-pink bags of Starburst) makes the perfect eraser for the pencil. You can find these at most grocery stores, or order them online from Target / Amazon
Step 1: Pencil Lead
In your piping bag, add a small amount of mini chocolate chips to create the “pencil lead.”
Step 2: The Wood Tip
Add a small amount of popcorn to create the wood tip of the pencil.
Step 3: The Pencil Body
Fill most of the bag up with goldfish to create the body of the pencil.
Step 4: The Ferrule
Add one layer of Hershey Kisses to create the ferrule (the metal thing that attaches the eraser).
Step 5: The Eraser
Finish the pencil with a handful of pink Starbursts to create the eraser. You can find bags of “All Pink” Starbursts at most grocery stores.
Step 6: Tie the Ribbon
Tie a bow of ribbon around the bag to close up the pencil!

Recently decided to order steroids online, chose a store with a high rating https://body-steel.com/ . The ordering process went smoothly, the delivery was fast, and the product was high-quality. After three weeks of training, the muscles became larger and the relief more noticeable. This is a great option for those who want to speed up progress. I plan to continue ordering here.

Thank you so much for this idea, I found it on Pinterest. I volunteered to donate 45 treats for my sons 3rd grade End of the year party and this was a hit. My mom and I had so much fun making them, it was super easy and the kids loved the snacks and treats inside.
