Game Room Glow Up

We recently turned our playroom into the ultimate Game Room, packing it with vibrant LED lights, cozy spots for hanging out, and an atmosphere full of excitement and energy—and the kids are absolutely obsessed with the transformation!

When we first moved into our dream home, we intentionally left this space untouched, wanting to live in the house for a bit to see how it naturally evolved. As it turns out, this room quickly became the most loved part of our home for the kids. It’s where Thomas and his friends play video games, where Caroline’s seemingly endless craft supplies live, and it’s the designated spot for sleepovers.

Here’s how it turned out…

PLAYROOM BEFORE

The original playroom was perfectly fine, blending seamlessly with the neutral aesthetic of the rest of our home. But for this room makeover, our goal was clear: to create a vibey space that would truly wow the kids and make them feel like this room was just for them.

Play Room Transformation to Game Room

Even though we had a clear vision for the room, I found myself struggling with how to bring it all to life. The design was a bit outside my comfort zone, and I knew it could easily go off track without the right expertise. So, I decided to reach out to Crystal for help. She’s designed most of the projects around our house and totally gets our style. She’s amazing at what she does, and we knew she’d be the perfect person to help bring our vision to life.

Game Room Paint

To create the vibe we envisioned, we knew we needed to make the room as dark as possible without it feeling too cave-like. Dark colors can be tricky to choose, especially for a space with so many angles. Crystal recommended Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, a cool, deep charcoal color, and it turned out absolutely perfect.

I partnered with Craftwork to give this room a fresh coat of paint and they did an amazing job. Their process made everything so easy: First, we received a quick, no-surprise estimate after sharing a few photos of the room. From there, we were able to schedule the project with ease. Their skilled painters not only delivered a flawless paint job but also went above and beyond—patching up some holes that had been left from previous use. They were incredibly detail-oriented, making sure the space was left spotless, with no paint splatters or mess left behind. Craftwork truly made the entire experience stress-free with their transparent pricing, professional service, and dedication to getting every detail right. Highly recommend!

To make the room even darker, we added blackout Roman shades. Not only do they enhance the moody vibe we were going for, but the kids also love how they help them sleep in longer. And when we need more light, it’s easy to just pull the shades up and let the sunshine in.

Game Room Seating Areas

The new set-up offers two separate seating spaces, each with its own TV. I was a little worried about competing sound levels, but we’ve found the perfect volume for each TV that keeps everything in balance. And honestly, this setup has been a game changer!

Modular Sectional Sofa Set with Ottomans

When we first moved in, Matt discovered this massive sectional sofa on Amazon, and we’ve been really happy with it. It arrived quickly, was easy to assemble, and offers plenty of storage while being comfortable to lounge on. One of the best features is that you can configure it in different ways, which is perfect for larger sleepovers. If you’re looking for an affordable sofa, I highly recommend checking out the video for this one—it’s really cool! While it’s on the firmer side, it’s ideal for a bunch of boys watching football or a group of girls cuddled up for a movie marathon.

Game Room

Caroline can be found lounging on the sofa watching a TV show while Thomas games on the other. On Game Day, both TVs are often playing different games, and it really feels like the ultimate football watching room. The kids, their friends, and the dads absolutely love hanging out here. The Gamer TV has its own dedicated seating area, featuring two ginormous bean bag chairs that are as functional as they are comfy. These chairs fold out into full-size beds — perfect for Snooze Days or sleepovers!

LED Strip Lights

The LED lights throughout this room really make a statement, bringing the entire space to life. From the sleek strip lights along the walls to the backlighting behind the TVs, every corner radiates with color and energy. The soft, ambient glow creates the perfect moody atmosphere for movie nights, gaming, or just hanging out. The custom neon signs add a personal touch, giving the room even more character. And the best part? Matt found the perfect remote that lets us turn everything on with just the click of a button!

I absolutely love how our LED signs give the illusion that the neon frames are backlit! These neon frames are definitely one of my favorite features of the room. They come in lots of cool colors and sizes. I even found some fun artwork on Etsy to pop inside. The vibrant “Euphoria II” by Ron Deri, is a colorful, abstract emoji-inspired painting that adds a pop of energy to the space, perfectly fitting the playful vibe we were going for.
