Five on Friday!

Another round of five on Friday! Here we go!

- ONE - I just learned this week that you can cook a baked potato in the crockpot! At first I was skeptical but figured it really didn't require any work so I attempted it. Literally, all you have to do is wash your potatoes, poke some holes in them and place them in the slow cooker on low for 10 hours. That's it!!! When I got home I was shocked at how perfectly my potatoes were cooked through. In fact, they were the best I've ever made! Anyways, as I was scooping out the perfectly baked insides it dawned on me that I should just go the extra mile and make them twice baked potatoes! I'm so glad I did. I followed the Pioneer Woman's Recipe {here} and days later Matt and I are still talking about how this was one of our most favorite dinners recently!
- TWO - Last night my friend Cristina hosted our first Supper Club of the year. She did such a wonderful job kicking things off with Zoe's Kitchen, GiGi's Cupcakes and lots of wine! Everyone had such a great time!
- THREE - I recently discovered Jim Gaffigan and am obsessed. Several nights this week I have binge watched his stand up skits and haven't laughed that hard in awhile. Below is one of my favorite skits on McDonalds. If you're looking for a good laugh you also have to watch: Camping, Waking Up & Bacon, 4 Kids, Hot Pockets, Bottled Water, Kale and pretty much any other skit you can find!
- FOUR - Question for the mamas! Caroline's chubby little legs are starting to get stuck in her Bumbo Seat these days and I fear we will soon need to consider high chair options. We currently have a Chicco Caddy Hook On Chair as an option but the only area in our kitchen that we could hook it on would be our bar top (which is really tall, and I am really short). Otherwise, we'd need to use the table in the dining room. And let's be honest, I'm not going to feed Caroline in the dining room every meal. I like to give her some food while I prep dinner 3 steps away. So my question is...what high chair would you recommend?
- FIVE - Last but certainly not least, I wanted to provide you all with an update on my dad. First, I just have to tell you how humbled by the amount of prayers and emails we still continue to receive. Please don't stop praying...IT IS WORKING! Dad recently had a follow up scan to check on the progress from the lung radiation and the doctor was surprised and elated to deliver great news - not only did the radiation stop the cancer from spreading in his lungs but it also has significantly shrunk! On top of that, dad's lungs are no longer collapsed and he is breathing great. Just over the weekend he worked out and did some yard work! His chemo got delayed around Christmas because he came down with a pretty nasty flu but he had a quick surgery yesterday to receive his port and will begin very soon. We are hopeful that his progress will continue to amaze us all. God is so good. And you all are so wonderful to keep up the support and prayers for my family. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

  1. I love Jim Gaffigan as well. The Hot Pocket skit was the first one I saw and it still makes me laugh! Did you hear he is doing a tv show sometime soon?

  2. That is so amazing that the Lord is healing your dad! Truly a miracle! Will definitely keep praying! I love Jim Gaffigan - he is an absolute riot. My sister and I just die over the hot pocket sketch. Have a great weekend :)

  3. That is amazing news about your Dad!! SO happy for you and your family that his treatments are doing well!! Also- Jim Gaffigan came to the Gator Growl at UF (like 7 or 8 years ago.. man that makes me feel old) and he was hilarious!! "I don't stop eating when I'm full...." haha!

  4. What a powerful verse! So glad to hear your dad's update! We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair and really like it. Have a fabulous weekend!

  5. Jim Gaffigan is one of my absolute favorites. At one point, I had several downloads of his skits on my iPod and I tried listening to them while working out, but I had to stop because I was THAT person at the gym, dying laughing while on the elliptical. If only they could be hearing about "What's it like having four kids? Imagine you're drowning and someone hands you a baby," then they would be laughing too! He's fantastic!

On a more serious note, that gave me wonderful chills to read about your dad! I think of you and what your family is going through often, and every time you cross my mind, I send a quick little prayer your way.

  6. How wonderful about your dad!! The fact that is shrunk is such great news! Keeping him in my prayers! I'm sorry I don't have a high chair rec, I honestly can't stand them so we use the ones that you put in a chair (which doesn't solve your problem). My friend with 4 kids since the Jim Gaffigan 4 kids stand up just this week - hilarious!!

  11. So thankful about your dad. That is an all too familiar thing for me since I lost my dad 2 years ago to cancer. We have those pipsquigz toys and my little guy loves them!!! As far as high chairs look into Boon High chairs. Easy clean up and no little crevices to high pesky foods.

  16. We have the fisher price space saver chair. It can attach to any chair, taking up no space in the kitchen. Great news about your dad!

  17. SO happy to hear about your dad!!! We use the Fisher Price Space Saver - you can put it on any chair and it grows with the baby....Cam used his until he was over 2! However, it's as high as the chair you put it on, so it may still be a little high for you unless you bring over a dining chair. PS Jim Gaffigan is AMAZING. Don't you love the feeling of actually laughing out loud?? Happy Weekend!!

  21. such AMAZING news about your dad!!!!!! prayers do work friend and i am so thankful for that. p.s. on the highchair front, we have the oxo sprout and have loved it...we also have a vintage jenny lind my mom found on craigslist that we repainted and i'm obsessed because nothing gets stuck in any crevice since it's all wood so very easy to clean

    ReplyDelete
  22. We have the peg perego high chair and love it. Easy to clean too!

    ReplyDelete
  23. What a blessing about your Dada! Will continue to keep y'all in prayer.
As for high chairs, we LOVE our OXO wood & plastic one. The tray is the easiest to take on & off & clean. Which I do how many times a day??? Important detail! Comfy, safe point straps, super cute & matches our dining room colors and 'grows' with baby girl. What's not to love? Well made, fair price and cleans up like a breeze.
I tested them all at baby store & the other models jiggled or wiggled but this one was study, simple to use & well made. Love!

  24. The ikea ANTILOP. Best $15 I have spent on a baby product. I have the chair that hooks on to the table and my biggest con against it is the small gap it leaves between the seat and the table. That small gap becomes the dead zone for baby finger foods-especially when they are little. I also had an expensive bigger highchair which I ended up selling and replacing with the IKEA chair. I like that is takes up very little room and the biggest PRO is the height. The tray of the highchair is almost dead even with our kitchen table. Easy to clean. Really-cant say enough about it;)

  25. You just changed my life!! Baked potatoes in a crockpot?! So cool. I'm glad to hear your dad is looking up! I will be thinking of your family this weekend. :)

  26. That is GREAT news about your dad! Prayers are still coming your way! :-) Those twice baked potatoes look amazing! I am skeptical too about cooking potatoes in the crockpot, but since you wrote about how good they were I need to just do it. I hope you have a great weekend!

  27. So happy to hear the good news about your dad! I will pray that he continues to improve. I've never cooked a baked potato in a crock pot before but am definitely going to try it next time. Maybe it's because our oven is original with the house (ie. like 50 years old), but my baked potatoes never come out right, even when I leave them in the oven for an hour!

  28. Hi, first of all great news about your dad, glad all the prayers are working. Secondly am not sure of what you particularly look for in a high chair but we got the basic one from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29067293/ and loved it. It was dead easy to clean and the tray came off quite easily when we wanted the chair to be closer to the table. Now our 2.5 year old doesnt sit in her high chair so we have bought this chair http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00165213/ so she can sit at the table with us. I admit neither are aesthecially pleasing and you cant fold either of them down but we liked them! Hope you find something suitable!

  29. That's such great news on your dad and I'll continue to keep him in my prayers! You may actually get more life out of your bumbo then you'd expect. Even though it feels tight, the cushiony part around their legs does expand with them, you just need to maneuver it a bit when you are putting them in it! My little guy is 16 months and we still use it if we're traveling. But for everyday use, you'll prob want a high chair - I love mine, and it's such a breeze to clean. It's the OXO Tot Sprout High Chair, and it comes in lots of fun colors. Hope this helps! xoxo, - M @ The Sequin Notebook

  30. I have a lot to comment on. 1. Thinking of your Dad! 2. I just discovered Zoes kitchen and there are a lot of delicious copycat recipes out there! 3. I adore the crockpot potatoes but haven't thought about making them twice baked! Duh. That sounds amazing. 4. Jim Gaffigan has hilarious books too!!

  34. We have a Boon Flair and a Tripp Trapp. I love them both! The wheels on the Boon are nice, as is cleanup (no fabric, just wipe it out) and the tray inserts fit nicely in the dishwasher. That said, our Tripp Trapp (which you can buy a tray for and can be pulled up to the table) grows with the child over time and I know will be our daughter's chair at the dining room table until she goes off to college. The slim design is nice too, and it is SO easy to clean.

  35. Where did you get your bibs??? I've been looking for a monogrammed set!

  36. I literally just checked JG's book, Dad is Fat, out this week from the library. So funny. Especially now having a child myself...I don't think I would've understood the humor before having a child. Anyway, glad you found him funny too! I've never had Gigi's cupcakes...not sure how I've missed out for this long!

  37. We have the Boon Flair high chair and I LOVE it!!! Can't recommend it enough!!! It is SUPER easy to clean and I like the look of it too (no crazy babyish designs, and looks good in our kitchen)!! Such good news about your dad!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. We have the Boon high chair too and love it! It's all one piece so super easy to clean, and no little nooks and crannies for crumbs to hide. http://www.booninc.com/products/Flair

  39. i did baked sweet potatoes in the crockpot yesterday and holy cow, yum and easy! Definitely on my do-again and again and again list. Also, second the Boon highchair recs!

  40. Such great news about your dad!! Love the idea of baked potatoes in the crock pot - I am going to have to try that!

  41. Yay for the good news about your dad! The power of prayer is incredible!!!

Love your supper club set up!! I would love to be a part of one of those!

  42. WONDERFUL news about your dad. I hope that he continues to do well and improve! I'm combing your comments for high chair recs for little man because I HATED the high chair we used with Blaire. The Fisher Price Space Saver was a nightmare for me. Impossible to get it clean and tons of crevices and places for food to fall. I spent so much time trying to clean that thing and it always looked nasty. The biggest thing I want in a new chair is no cracks/crevices and removable straps. I'll let you know if I find the holy grail of chairs. (Boon Flair is currently highest on my list but as I understand it, no removable straps.)

  43. I am so glad to hear that your dad is doing so well! The baked potatoes in the crock pot are genius! I always underestimate how long they take and we end up eating super late as a result! We always used one of those Fisher Price clip on chairs (to our regular chairs) so I can't offer you any suggestions there except to say that we loved them - sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Antilop High Chair from IKEA!!! It's less than $20, super easy to clean because there is no fabric or weird spaces, its not bulky or heavy, and the legs can come off and be stored away when you don't need it anymore. My chubby little 8 month old loves it.

  45. We use the fisher price healthy care booster seat for our kiddos. We have a small kitchen and I didn't want a huge high chair cluttering up our space. I love this booster because 1) it's completely dishwasher safe 2) it grows with the child so you can use it just as a booster without the tray when they get a little older 3) it folds up easily so you can take it with you when you go places. We actually keep one in the back of our car so we can pull it out whenever we need it. Highly recommend!

  50. Oh Christina how wonderful is it to hear about your dad! Praise be to God! I have heard some wonderful stories of cancer being beat this week and this fills me with such a sense of joy and humbleness to God. The supper club looked fab! Cupcakes...yes, please!

  51. WONDERFUL news on your dad! That is simply humbling and amazing!

Please add my husband's grandmother to your prayer list. He found out yesterday that she has stage 4 colon cancer, and because of her age and the extent of the cancer, they can't do anything for her. He is on a plane right now to visit her in Los Angeles. He'll be back late Wednesday night. Please also pray for me, as I'm here alone at 32 weeks pregnant.

  52. YAY!! Amen about your Dad - such wonderful news. We have the Chicco Polly high chair and Ellie is already in it for meals as her chubby thighs got stuck in her Bumbo a while ago... And we love it! Easy to clean and adjustable heights x

  58. Twice baked potatoes sound delicious! I'm so glad to hear your dad is doing better!

We have the Chicco Polly high chair and I would NOT recommend it. It has a fabric covering and the tray is gigantic and I can't take the tray off and set it on our counter because a leg separator is attached to it. I wish I had splurged and gotten the Boon Flair instead.
