This Coconut Margarita Recipe is a refreshing and tropical twist on the beloved classic.
The creamy coconut milk combined with a tangy kick of lime and the subtle warmth of tequila, this margarita feels like summertime in a glass. It’s perfect for summer barbecues, beach days, poolside, Cinco de Mayo, or unwinding after a long day.
Coconut Margarita Recipe Tips
- Rather than salting the entire rim of your drink, try salting just the side of your glass instead so you don’t get a mouth full of salt every time you take a sip. All you need to do is rub a lime down the side of your glass and gently roll it into your salt mixture OR shake a little of the mixture down the side of the glass (my preference so my salt plate doesn’t get clumpy).
- I LOVE my BrüMate cocktail shaker. It has a leak-proof top, comes in 10 colors, is triple-insulated so your drink stays cold without the mess of condensation and comes with a splash-proof drinking lid if you want to enjoy your beverage straight from your tumbler.

Coconut Margarita Recipe Ingredients
- Tequila: Use your favorite tequila for this recipe! My favorite brand for margaritas is Tres Agaves Blanco Tequila. It’s 100% pure agave, clean (additive-free), and has a balanced and smooth taste. It is one of the most awarded super-premium Tequilas on the market and is a solid value — a 750 ml bottle is priced around $30.
- Lime Juice: FRESH squeezed lime juice makes a huge difference. The juice is worth the squeeze! Don’t forget to save a wedge for your garnish!
- Cointreau: You can use Triple Sec if you really want to, but Cointreau is my orange liqueur preference as it offers a more balanced, well-rounded flavor.
- Light Coconut Milk: I use LIGHT coconut milk because the consistency is thinner. The thicker coconut milks tend to curdle…and no one likes curdled milk. Make sure to thoroughly mix the coconut milk before using as it tends to separate in the can.
- Agave Nectar: You can also use honey or simple syrup if you prefer, but light agave nectar, or agave syrup, is a natural sweetener and great alternative to simple syrup. Currently, I’m using Madhava Organic Amber Agave, a clean, simple, and organic option.
