How To Make Saltine Cracker Toffee
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13 x 9″ baking sheet with aluminum foil and mist it with baking spray. Tightly arrange saltine crackers in a single layer. You may need to break a few into smaller pieces. Set aside.
Step 2: In a saucepan, heat the butter until melted. Add brown sugar and whisk to combine. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches a boil, stirring constantly. Let the mixture boil for about 2 minutes.
Step 3: Remove caramel mixture from heat and pour over crackers. Use a spatula or spoon to spread the mixture evenly over the crackers. Bake for 7-8 minutes or until the butter mixture is bubbly.
Step 4: While toffee is baking, heat peanut butter in microwave until melted. Remove pan and immediately drizzle peanut butter over and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly on top. Let sit for a few minutes until the chocolate is melted, then use a spatula to spread the mixture around.
Step 5: Sprinkle crushed M&Ms (or other crushed toppings like Andes mints, candy cane, toasted pecans, sprinkles, etc.). Let sit for about two hours or chill for 30 minutes. Cut and enjoy!
Saltine Cracker Toffee Ingredients
- Saltine Crackers: These crispy, salty crackers are the perfect base for all the toffee goodness. They add the ideal crunch and provide a sturdy foundation for the sweet layers that follow.
- Light Brown Sugar: Brown sugar is the secret ingredient that gives this toffee its rich, caramelized flavor. When combined with the butter, it melts into a smooth, gooey layer of toffee magic.
- Butter: Butter makes everything better, especially in toffee! It’s what helps create that irresistible melt-in-your-mouth texture and gives the toffee its rich, buttery taste that’s hard to resist. You can use salted or unsalted butter – your preference!
- Creamy Peanut Butter: Peanut butter adds a creamy, nutty richness that takes this toffee to a whole new level. It pairs perfectly with the chocolate and gives each bite an extra burst of flavor. Pure peanut butter perfection!
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips: Chocolate chips = heaven. These melt beautifully over the toffee and peanut butter layers to form a smooth, decadent chocolate coating that makes every bite indulgent.
- Crushed M&Ms (or Other Crushed Toppings): M&Ms (or whatever toppings you choose) add a fun crunch and a pop of color. Whether you go classic with M&Ms or mix it up with Andes mints, candy cane, or toasted pecans, these toppings give the toffee a sweet finishing touch that’s totally customizable.
