It only takes 20 minutes to make and is packed with flavorful beef, rice, cucumbers, carrots, green onion, a fried egg, and drizzled with a delicious spicy mayo. A perfect weeknight meal for busy families, you can cook this meal in one pan, prep the ingredients ahead of time, and the leftovers make for a delicious lunch.

Korean Beef Bowl Ingredients & Adaptions

  • Beef: Use your favorite meat — ground beef, ground pork, ground turkey, or ground chicken. We love ground pork and ground beef — sometimes we mix the two together as well!
  • Rice: If you prefer to use regular white rice, cook it using your favorite method. For a low-carb option, you can use fresh or frozen cauliflower rice.
  • Coconut Aminos: A healthier sauce substitute for soy sauce.
  • Ground Ginger: Don’t forget to look in your freezer section for frozen ginger cubes if you want a shortcut for mincing fresh ginger.
  • Veggies & Variations: We love the delicious crunch of carrots and cucumbers for this dish. Other great additions would be shredded cabbage, sliced avocado.
  • Fried Egg: Don’t skip the sunny side up egg — it really pulls this dish together, packs some extra protein in, and makes it extra filling!
  • Spicy Mayo: You can quickly make this sauce by mixing together 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons sriracha. For a shortcut, we really love Primal Kitchen Spicy Mayo.

Recommended Tools & Products

  • HexClad 10″ Stainless Steel Frying Pan: The best pan I’ve ever owned, this high-quality, dishwasher/oven-safe pan features a laser-etched non-stick surface using a patented hexagonal design to provide ideal hybrid cooking performance. Utilizing a tri-ply construction, the cookware has a layer of aluminum encapsulated between two layers of stainless steel for perfect heat distribution. It’s also PFOA-free, non-toxic, and is built to last a lifetime. Worth every penny.
  • Meat Mixer/Chopper: One of our most used kitchen gadgets, this masher helps to easily and quickly break up ground beef into perfectly bite-size pieces. It also services as a potato masher.
  • Garlic Twister: This magic garlic twister is AMAZING. All you do is throw a few cloves into the container and twist! And getting ALL the garlic out is so easy — just make sure to line up the twist correctly and you can scoop it all right out. It’s also easy to clean, I toss mine right into the dishwasher.
  • Herb Scissors: For quickly and evenly chopping your green onions into perfect size pieces.

Why We Love Korean Beef Bowls

I’ve been making versions of this delicious bowl since 2018! It’s a family-favorite recipe for busy weeknights and over the years I’ve modified the recipe to speed it up and fit our dietary needs (gluten-free, soy-free).

  • It’s a protein-packed, hearty meal
  • You can cook the entire meal in just one pan (just re-use the pan for both cauliflower rice and meat)
  • It’s gluten-free, low carb, Whole30, and soy-free
  • It takes 20 minutes to pull together
  • Perfect for busy weeknights, you can prep all the ingredients up to two days ahead of time
  • The toppings make it easy to adapt for each family member
  • The leftovers make for a delicious lunch the next day (store the veggies separately from the meat)
