Five on Friday

Happy Friday!

I cannot believe how fast October flew by! While it is one of my favorite months of the year, I am really excited to move past Halloween and on to the next holiday!

Now that November is here, you can expect to see all of my gift guides rolling out over the next few weeks! I have spent a tremendous amount of time digging for the best gifts and hope you love them! In case you missed it, this week I shared my Tween Girls Gift Guide and next week I’ve got my Tween Boys Gift Guide lined up and hopefully the Men’s Gift Guide too (still finalizing)!

1. Holiday Garland Reminder

Speaking of holidays, this is your reminder to ORDER YOUR HOLIDAY GARLAND NOW. This is a reminder for myself too because I need a few more strands for spaces in our new house.

This gorgeous pine garland is excellent quality (it looks so real!) and sold out on Amazon by Halloween last year, so I’m surprised to see it in stock still! It is pictured below on my fireplace mantel from last Christmas, but I wanted to note this is doubled up with two strands to make it extra thick! You can also purchase it directly from the manufacturer.

One more option! I also found a gorgeous cedar garland from McGee & Co. and am adding a few strands to my cart as I write this post! I’m salty on the shipping costs, so I’m hoping it’s worth it and will report back once it arrives!

Oh, and these are the command strip bundlers I’ll use to hang our garlands!

2. Amazon Alexa Hack: Disabling Shopping Notifications

Have your kids figured out they can ask Alexa what packages are being delivered?! If your kids are like mine, they may be secretly asking Alexa to spoil their Christmas gifts!

But guess what? You can totally outsmart the kiddos by disabling this feature in your Amazon Alexa app.

Here’s how to disable Amazon Alexa shopping notifications: Open your Alexa app, click on “settings,” then “notifications,” then “Amazon Shopping.” From this page, you can disable Alexa from saying the title of the items you’ve ordered.

3. Slow Cook Sunday: Cuban Mojo Pork

A few Sundays ago I slow cooked a delicious cuban mojo pork in my crockpot and wanted to share the recipe I used in case you’re looking for something to make for Slow Cook Sunday!

GreenPan Crockpot

Since launching Slow Cook Sunday, I’ve head a few people reach out and ask me about my slow cooker.

If you’re in the market for a new slow cooker, I rounded up the top 3 reader recommendations in this post. I was pretty picky about what I was looking for so it took me a while to finally find the perfect crockpot for our needs — and I ended up going with the GreenPan crockpot! I couldn’t love it more. This stainless steel slow cooker has a nontoxic (PFAS-free) ceramic nonstick coating for the inner pan and also has some great cooking functions I didn’t have previously — browning/searing, steaming, and 5 slow cook modes.

4. Holiday Shopping Checklist

Now that most of us are in holiday shopping mode, I wanted to re-share my Christmas Gifts Checklist printable!

This updated list includes a “hiding spot” because we ALL know we hide boxes all over the house and inevitably forget about one when scrambling on Christmas Eve. So I hope you can use this printable to track the gifts you’ve purchased, the gifts you still need to purchase, and WHERE you are storing them all!

The checklist below is an image, so you can either right-click it and download it OR I’ve created a PDF version that you can download and print!

5. Frasier Fir Laundry Detergent

I also wanted to share my annual reminder that this frasier fir laundry detergent smells ahhh-maaaaziiiiinngg — like a Christmas tree! I love washing our blankets in it for the holidays. I purchased a bottle 3 years ago and it’s going to last forever since it’s so highly concentrated.
